Eleanor is seriously one of the most forgotten singers of the 20th century. She could sing anything she wanted, though she was best known as a Mozart specialist.

As I recall she did just a handful of performances in Austria with Bohm conducting, which were acclaimed at the time and deserved to be. In the early 80s I recall discussing Eva Marton’s performance of the empress with her, which she had seen the week before at the Met. It was the only time I can recall her complimenting another soprano, and she said of her performance and the difficulty of the role - I can’t believe I ever sang that”
