1:31 I had no idea her chest voice was so strong & clear! & after sustaining an Eb6 all in the same breath. She truly is 1 of the greatest current Sopranos. Her voice is fully developed in the individual registers & so well connected & coordinated. She rly is all the hype & more. Heard her voice live at the MET in March of last year near the very back at the 2nd highest balcony in a dress rehearsal performance of Romeo & Juliet, & her voice was heard very clearly no matter how loud the orchestra got. Amazing.

più avanza l'età più la voce tende a scurire, visto che poi è un soprano wagneriano è normale . Anche mia madre aveva lo stesso tipo di voce ed è normale con l'età .

The late Maestro James McCracken delivers a powerful performance on this recording of an unjustly neglected Christmas hymn. Maestro McCracken also recorded "Angels We Have Heard On High" and the Bach/Gounod "Ave Maria" for a Firestone Christmas album in 1965.

In spite of being out of her usual repertoire, her voice is utterly irresistible omg. I fell in love with her after Strauss's Frau ohne Schatten and still think she owns one of the most alluring soprano voices of the last century. She is also an immense actress that conveys all emotions with a thousand details, as well as a very beautiful woman with an awesome stage presence. All in all, an artist of her own.

Although this awesome singer would have been labeled a lyric spinto rather than a full spinto or dramatic soprano she sails through this monumental aria as if were the most natural thing in the world & for her timbre of instrument I can not imagine it sung more beautifully. That goes for everything I have heard from her from a varied repertoire which no other soprano artist could match during her time. Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, lighter Wagner roles, Richard Strauss, Bartok, the list goes on & on. Varady remains for me the greatest & most flexible lyric spinto soprano artist for the last quarter of the 20th Century, IMO.

I was at AIMS in Graz, Austria Summer of 1979 and had two lessons with Ms. Steber. She had a "Mostly Mozart" recital while there. She was 65 and had such a fluid sound. She may have scooped a few high notes, but her delivery was most engaging.

Definitely not Di Giuseppe. Listen to him here, kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3_Efnhme8mngs0si=qLO5Fo_QRfNQK56K Who ever this is sang in full chest voice with no wobble. Di Giuselle was never this heavy, never a spinto a tenor like in the recording.

So emotionally intimate. Amazing performance of this great, great song! At first I wasn't persuaded by the pianist's approach but by the end I was. The composition of the piano part is so architectural, and Vignoles keeps it spare, and makes it clear how Mahler is shifting the components around with respect to each other - at the same time he maintains a sense of movement even as she seems to be transcending time.
