Prop 36 is the taxpayer saying that they want actual punishment for crimes. The “powers that be” as you put it, should not have anything to say about this in court later. So stupid, the taxpayers have spoken and that’s final. Deal with it Gavin

Making 3rd offenses for theft a felony makes a path out of crime far more difficult. People keep thinking throwing more law enforcement and police at a problem solves it in the long term but there’ll be lots of unintended consequences. AND now Californians will be paying with their tax dollars to shore up prisons and house more inmates. Sad.

@ obviously people are more fed up with the rampant crime sweeping the streets, the amount of drugs on the street, needles and other paraphernalia out in plain view among the public and our children that we don’t care about the price as a society. And if you didn’t know, California also gleefully voted to implement two other tax measures as well. So I’ll say it again @mkgreen9750, the taxpayers have spoken so deal with it.

Rent Control: Get government out of private property rights! Taxes are too high! Govt needs to stop spending our money wastefully and has no idea how to balance a budget. I'm ashamed that California voters are approving the two $10 Billion Bond issues. There is no accountability for what the money will be used for, only the certainty of increased tax obligations! @@JM-qn3tf not to mention, Prop 33 doesn’t force a city to adopt rent control. Prop 33 only would have repealed the law that currently blocks additional rent control measures. My guess is that most cities would choose not to adopt rent control. Other cities would have started adopting measure slowly. By the way, the law that is currently on the books that blocks additional rent control is called Costa-Hawkins. So named for the two real estate developers who wanted to prevent any more cities in California from controlling how much profit they could squeeze out of the housing market. And for the 45th year in a row, the real estate pirates have convinced the average person in California that the best thing for the economy is for everyone to keep paying too much for rent.
@cwilsonyt
@cwilsonyt 6 күн бұрын
@@JM-qn3tf @ and now I dare you to explain how rent control does not help. Clearly, having few rent controls led California to where it is today. Did you know that the median income in California is about $90k? Did you know that the median home costs $900k, and the median rent is about $2800/mo? Given that median rent, a household should be earning $172k. A household would need to earn around $320 to afford the median house. It’s probable that most people in California are paying far too much for housing. This is likely because for most of the last 35 years, developers in California did not find it in their interest to develop housing that wasn’t profitable. In other words, they twisted the market for max profit. I encourage a spirited debate.

Don't pretend rent control will fix anything. All it does is create a bunch of people who will never move and shrink the available market. More traffic, fewer available units, and more delinquency on maintenance because landlords can't afford repairs, when they couldn't raise rent for 10 years or sell a property because it's losing money every month. The homeless don't have to be in California, they come here for the weather and liberal perks. If I was homeless, I'd much rather be here than someplace like Wyoming, Texas, Florida, etc.

While they may sound appealing, the reality is that higher taxes and reduced benefits are often the outcome. It's time for everyone to wake up and reconsider their perspectives. Let's go, Trump 2024! Here are my stances on the propositions: - Proposition 2: NO - Proposition 4: NO - Proposition 5: NO - Proposition 6: NO - Proposition 32: NO - Proposition 33: NO - Proposition 34: YES - Proposition 35: NO - Proposition 36: YES - Measure G: NO

You don't have to live here. Simple idea is there's too much demand and not enough supply to live here. Simplest solution is to go elsewhere. Raising wages will only make it more expensive because supply/demand curve doesn't change, just rises to a higher equilibrium.

Nothing confusing about it. It helps a few people that will refuse to move, ever and hurts anyone in the market to rent and landlords. Whoa, hold up. This comment needs more than just a grammar check; it needs a complete overhaul. First, the sentence structure is a mess. “By eliminating the profits will prevent investors”-what does that even mean? Are we eliminating profits to prevent investors? Or are we trying to say that investors won’t have incentives? Then there’s “It won’t. Help those of looking to invest.” It sounds like you’re trying to communicate in broken code. A little editing goes a long way! Also, if you’re going to make a bold claim about Prop 33, how about adding some actual reasoning? A vague gripe with no clear logic or grammar doesn’t make a persuasive argument-it just sounds like you accidentally mashed the keyboard halfway through.
