Ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage and journalist Rachel Johnson - Boris Johnson’s sister - were sent on a political blind date by the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme. They strongly disagree over Brexit, but will they get on over dinner?

You are right. Politically I absolutely loathe Farage and all he stands for-but Rachel is right, as a person you can’t help but like him-which in many ways is what makes him so dangerous politically. I adore Rachel, she is the perfect person to talk with him as she absolutely disarms him and gets him to talk without making him defensive. Shame she has such a twit for a brother.
@MauriatOttolink
@MauriatOttolink 5 жыл бұрын
@@lilylolly8757 Farage is equally disarming. Why do you find the same thing politically dangerous in someone whose views you oppose yet charming when you approve of them politically? Peers Corbyn ("Who? I hear you say!) is a World Leading Climate scientist who has (amongst many other REAL scientists) proved the Climate Project Fear to be a political hoax. He has also conclusively disproved the alleged man-made aspect of Climate Change. It's a shame that he's got a dangerous world class twit for a brother. Boris doesn't have a twit for a sister. That doesn't make him a Twit. If we didn't have to vote for our politicians but did a Dangerous Twit count amongst the parties we'd still have the same govt. in power. It wouldn't be a landslide but we'd be left in no doubt!

Perhaps you´re right. But perhaps they´re just professional celebrities who know how to act and talk entertainingly, on top of it when camera is present. They also know pretty much of each other so they don´t need to go through all the tedious basic blabla.

Maybe so, but I think it more important that we find levels where we can find agreement, or just share a joke, or love of music. Too often we get tied up on a single subject and frankly become bores, when there is so much to us. How else did the "Chuckle Brothers", Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness help diffuse The Troubles in Northern Ireland and reach agreements on power sharing? I think we should all remember how multifaceted we are, and seek common ground wherever possible to achieve compromise, or if not, to at least accept difference in people, and rub along.

@@MauriatOttolink I think the article which appeared in the Daily Mail, which showed extracts from ex-wife Jane Chapman suggested that Jezza was a Trotskyite Communist, and his idea of a dinner date was cold Tesco baked beans (not even from the Co-op) from a tin, and siging IRA songs, after a night out on the beer! So I agree with you entirely. He and his buddies wouldn't be much fun round a dinner table, or in any conversational situation for that matter. I'm minded of Labour Minister, Sir Stafford Cripps who bored Stalin to sleep in a mission to Moscow after WWII. www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6686535/amp/Cold-Tesco-baked-beans-sitting-floor-singing-IRA-songs.html

you literally couldn't be more wrong in your assertions. UKIP is literally about to file for bankruptcy and the reason Murdoch owned/run networks are soaring is because people are waking up to the fact that they're being continuously lied to or misinformed by left/liberal-controlled media. as for Farage's finances, nobody cares. I'm what you'd probably call a 'hard centrist' (I'm certainly no Tory). then again, I'd rather watch my own balls being licked by Susan Boyle than watch MSNBC's 'Morning Joe'. touché.

He comes across as incredibly idiotic, out of his depth, lacking in manners, un-diplomatic in everyway possible, and the purest most annoying embodiment of American Exceptionalism... not to mention he huge ego, the "me me me" attitude, and the self-centric approach to trade policy (ie. quite charming, civil and genuinely friendly informal debate by people holding opposing views. Nigel in my view is a people's champion. A man who actually understands what the word democracy means and is unafraid to stand up to old school political bully boy rhetoric and tactics. An ordinary man with high integrity doing extraordinary things in British politics....and Americans and their president love him too.Total respect for him.

Rachel Johnson is conflating two different types of democracy, Direct and Representational. In the main we are governed by representational democracy, i.e. each MP 'represents' us. Rarely we switch to direct democracy and the people directly instruct the government on a specific question, i.e a referendum. The idea being that the electorate answer a question directly and government acts on the outcome. In the case of the Leave/Remain referendum, the Remainer's not happy with the result have decided to blur the lines by slyly using representational democracy. They are fudging the two types together. In a true democracy it's either one or the other, they don't mix!

I have met Nigel a number of times and have always found him to be a thoroughly decent sort. Not remotely like any of the propaganda dished out by the two main parties. An interesting thing happened at one of the meetings, a famous and pretty powerful person, quietly made a racist remark to Nigel. Nigel's reaction was not to be diplomatic and ignore it, but to turn his back on the chap and ignore him thereafter. A very decent bloke, and I wish his fortunes turn around.

Britain was never great, it used it's population to terrorize the world for 300 years, The British Empire was not built on trade as we are led to believe, it was built on greed, corruption and force as we plundered one country after another around the world stealing their natural resources for almost nothing ... This is why Britain today is no longer great, if it ever was, because all of those countries have learned to stand up for themselves and kick us out !!!
