The Conservatives have taken a string of former Labour strongholds, with the party forecast to win the general election with a comfortable majority.
Jeremy Corbyn said it was a "very disappointing night" - and he would not lead Labour into the next election.
Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson has lost her seat to the Scottish National Party.
The BBC is now forecasting the Tories will get a majority of 74, with Boris Johnson saying it was a "powerful mandate to get Brexit done".
Labour have lost seats across the North, Midlands and Wales in places which backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum.
They are set to win 63 fewer seats than in 2017, it is suggested.

There is no wrong( PS- they are not wrong anyway, they just didn't fall for project fear, the EU is a Franco German Mafia that looks after itself and its interests at the cost of most of Europe, but pretends to be caring while spreading corporate globalism and the death of european national cultures and self identity).

It's almost as if what London wants isn't the same as what the rest of the country wants, and that the "London Bubble" has a warped, insular perspective. London says "the UK wants this", but is somehow surprised every time the voters don't share that opinion.

MS19 while I agree with your second assessment, it doesn’t explain or answer the question. Dublin is a cosmopolitan area and is a very much Fine Gael (centre to centre right party) voting area across all boards. New York votes democrat and they’re more right win than the tories.
@MS-19
@MS-19 4 жыл бұрын
@@Saoirse_don_Phalaistín Perhaps one explanation is that London can feel like the be-all and end-all of the country: when you're there, the rest of the UK seems a world away. If I were taking a foreign visitor around London, I would say to them that whilst it contains many typically British things, it isn't what Britain as a whole is like - for that, you would need to visit smaller cities, towns, villages, rural areas; in those places you would see different facets of culture and heritage, some to a greater degree than you might see in London; you would also meet people with different approaches to life, different priorities, different perspectives on the world and different issues that they want to be addressed. To an extent, that is just as true of Paris or New York or Rome - they are of their respective countries, but they do not exemplify or epitomise everything about their countries.

If voting means anything? Is she mad? The scottish people voted to remain in the UK when they had a chance to leave! I would love to see Unionists in Scotland vote together instead of for individual ideology-based parties like Conservative or Labour and finally snuff out the SNP.
@AlexanderSilver1996
@AlexanderSilver1996 5 жыл бұрын
The result is disappointing for me because I'm a remainer. The conservatives made a very effective and successful effort to gain votes based on their brexit position, automatically gaining access to millions of voters that felt betrayed by LibLab's position on the matter. There also seems to be a clear element of "war weariness" where people no longer care about the outcome - only that there is one. That attitude shocks me but speaks volumes about the general public. Unfortunately, the conservatives' fantastic campaign coincided with Labour being led by the most useless, hopeless, aimless leader in its history. This is not 1948, policies about buying back the rail won't win votes. Policies about heavily taxing higher rate band payers won't win. The man's a joke and he's as much to blame for the result as Brexit scaremongering.

@@philsterthephilster Everyone remembers the lions. They are the ones the stories and the histories of the world are about. Been that way since the epic of Gilgamesh and will continue to be that way. They may die young in many cases but they lived rather than just existed. UK was always a trading powerhouse and still is. EU is the ones who will be losing out by us leaving. We put far more in than we get back and do so at a cost of not being in full control of our own futures. Only ones who benefit from the EU are businesses that can produce for pennies in Eastern Europe and sell at full price in places like Britain. It's the theory that we can save you ten pounds on a toaster, all you have to do is give up your job manufacturing toasters.

How many referendums is that then? How often? up until the SNP get the result they want? They had one a few years back but didn't like that result so want another, that is endless.
