The sound of the prop engine is music to my ears when landing, well done.

I remember when we received our first Elecrta's at Eastern Airlines in Miami. Late 50's if my memory serves me right. I loved the quiet running, low vibration engines.

Beautiful. My second-favorite aeroplane of all time. Thank you!

Many years ago while working for the USAF as a civilian employee, worked the ramp as an air cargo loader. These Lockheed Electras were our main conveyance for moving vital defense supplies and parts all over the country. It was called "Logair" a very cost efficient air cargo system utilized by this branch of defense. I can tell you, loading pallets into these aircraft was a tight squeeze with troublesome defective rollers to make things more difficult. Have to know your center weights and balances of loaded pallets to keep from tipping the aircraft aft and having the radome pointing toward the sky.

Many years on Wellington (NZ) to Sydney and Melbourne (Aust) routes also. The military version is still on the active roster of RNZAF.

A pilot's airplane, This is flying 100% this is what a real plane lover/pilot will love to fly........Not the computers with wings we have today.

There's a classic! Electras flew over half a million flights between Rio and São Paulo, Brazil, without a single major incident, a very respectable safety record. They eventually were retired and replaced with B737s, for economic, not safety reasons.

Good old workhorse Lockheed Electra. I have the pleasure of seeing the naval versions circling over my neighborhood regularly. The P-3 Orion.

Michael P If you fly in an Electra, there's a good chance you would die!

I love old aircraft like this. I'm doing my IMC rating at the moment and the C172 I fly has more of less the same equipment.

Nice Vid. ChanEx used to wet lease aircraft and crews from Zantop. I had the privilege to fly one out of Stansted for a while. Thanks for the ride down memory lane. I'm sure quite a few other Yanks will drop in and say "Hi" as well.

The IMC rating and instrument rating aren't the same thing, as a matter of fact. The IMC rating is, I believe, a way of enhancing the instrument flying skills of someone who already has a PPL and is only valid for the UK. The IR actually allows you to fly in the airway and is valid internationally. BUt I'm no expert - I've only just started doing my PPL hehe!
