I've been involved with two motorcycle racing teams that set a flock or records at Bonneville and I know how much effort it takes to field a team there. Prior to my involvement I could have never imagined just how much work there is to build then gather and keep a team together so I truly appreciate all that EV West has done to achieve this record. It is going to be massive fun just watching what they do in the future.

Not much of a streamliner with all 4 wheels hanging out in the breeze...

@@codymoe4986 My bad. It shows what late-night YT viewing can do when I gloss-over the details of the description's post. I'm from the old-school of lakersters, where they were considerably bulkier in design than what this Electraliner is; as a neighbor of mine had a lakester he prepped and drove at Bonneville back in the 1960's So, the sleekness of this Electrailiner, even with its exposed wheels, is a streamliner when compared to the old-school lakesters.

@@codymoe4986 Your response is much appreciated. To give you an idea of old-school I am when it comes to Bonneville, do a google search of *Markley #360 tank images* where you'll see pics of the Markley Brothers creation of their class-winning lakester they had for many years. Now, that's what I consider to be the _quintessential lakester_ from my familiar era of Bonneville. The Markley Brothers, Bob (nicknamed "Bones") and Charlie were my next-door-neighbors when I was a kid back in the 1960s; and in one late-Spring/Summer, allowed me hang-out with them and their crew as they were prepping that vehicle for Bonneville. Looking back from the perspective of an adult now, I find it remarkable the amount of patience they had with me being an intrusive kid I was back then. Bob and Charlie were brothers, but physically and temperament wise, one would have never known it; I can't recall a shred of similarities between the two.

Nice work ,love it! I was to drive a streamliner car in the 90's but I quit working for the Corp. before I ever got a chance to make it to the flats. It was only a Kawasaki 1000 with 4 turbos in a drag car chassis but could pull a 7 second quarter mile with ease all day. I think it pulled 6.40 in the quarter mile but that was so long ago. I did 300 inch while base dragster and 120 inch wheelbase funny cars then. With 8.3 Liter Aries Hemis and 10 liter for Exibition racing when there were only 12 guys in the US really to PLAY with. Times have changed. We had 3 crankshaft"s made for the 10 liter motors and ran it 3 times and NHRA banned them and we were stuck with $9000 with of crankshaft's you couldn't use and no one wanted them that knew anything.

I'm real curious to hear what happened with hickey, was he just no longer interested after the record was set or was there a falling out? And if so over what?
@mechanic8084 жыл бұрын
I bet it was because the body was flexing so much you can see he was having a hard time keeping it straight and probably thought it would shatter into pieces,, you can see it on the 1st run, notice on the 2nd run they recorded it from the frt and not the rear..
@fredygump55784 жыл бұрын
@@mechanic808 I bet most of that "flex" we see is an illusion created by the camera..."rolling shutter" is the culprit. But I agree he did get a little squrrely toward the end of the run. Notice how drive #2 stayed away from the blue line, likely finding smoother surface to run on.
@mechanic8084 жыл бұрын
@@fredygump5578 ya, I think your right, but i still think that body must have been flexing a lot since it's only fiber glass as they said in the video..
@wallacedavidg4 жыл бұрын
@@mechanic808 - That distortion you see is the 'GoPro' effect. 170° wide angle with electronic image stabilization results in what appeared to be warping on the body. The EIS is trying to eliminate jitter and it does this by cropping the video and trying to maintain a stable reference point. The 170° wide angle lens also causes a lot of distortion.
@erikfriesen10984 жыл бұрын
If you've travelled at speed at Bonneville you'll know the track is not really that smooth which causes vehicles to weave side to side a bit. And the track is a bit bumpy. Plus 218 mph will seem incredibly fast to someone who doesn't have a lot of experience on the salt at that speed. The temptation for a nervous driver to call it quits after nabbing 1 record is very understandable. Go watch the Guy Martin motorcycle videos.

Roger left the team after getting the record, and the EV West team was referred to a more experienced driver with EV land speed records already in his name. Our goal is to push the car to it's limit, and we need the best drivers available to do that. This happens all the time in motorsports, no one should be surprised by this. Roger got a record and a red hat for the 200 Club, something very few people do their first time in a car at Bonneville, others try for most of their life to achieve this. A friendship between the owner of EV West and Roger allowed him a land speed ride without any prior Bonneville experience. Not bad for a rookie, but we are at the point where we need better input and help from our driver and it was clear that Roger was not interested in that. Fans of seeing EV West go for the real record should be happy, and fans of Roger should be happy he got a record and wish him luck wherever he lands his next seat.
