I used to work in China in 2016, the price for a new three-wheeler was between 300US$ and 2000 for the heavy duty with bigger batteries. for an extra 100$, you could add a solar panel roof worth about 50-100 miles added range per day, more than enough for 95% of users. ok it tops 40 mi/h downhill, slightly less than a F150, but for 500$ only, no more gas bill!

Exactly !!! That was my first thought. They would be perfect for local urban usage: local errands, city streets, less than five mile tips, easy parking, extremely low operating costs. What would it take to get them accepted as street legal in the states? Even at 100% tariffs they would be a bargain and sell millions. I visited the NE of China last year and I stayed there for two months. These three wheeled trucks were all over the place and I was amazed at the loads that they carried. As you mentioned, it is a big advantage to be able to drop the sides and tailgate for easy loading and unloading. The dump bed is a big advantage as well. One day my wife and I went shoping at a local roadside market and we purchased several bags of vegetables. She spoke to one of the farmers who only charged 10 yuan to give us a ride home. The three of us squeezed into the cab of his little three wheeled truck and off we went. The ride wasn't smooth, but it got us home. I saw several sizes of these trucks as well as small short and stubby ones as well. They were built like little tanks and were used to carry paving stones. I saw small diesel tanks attached to the cabs of several of the standard sized trucks with enclosed cabs. I'm pretty sure that they have small diesel heaters in them as it is really cold there in the winter. I enjoyed this video, thank you!

This tricycle is very reliable for the reason of its simplicity. The motor drives the rear axle of the vehicle through reduction gear inches. There is no need to change the oil, there is no gearbox, there is no internal combustion engine, all there is is a couple of wires. Even if the user is uneducated, he or she can normally use and repair it. And this kind of tricycle in China, many people use more than ten years have not been maintained, after all, even if it is broken, it does not need to spend a lot of money to get a new one. We here in the countryside, almost every family has one, in the countryside is too convenient to use. Electricity is as cheap as free money compared to fuel.

I'm tired of hearing how Americans wouldn't buy vehicles like this. I don't care that it doesn't look like a “truck”. A typical truck in the US is often around $60,000 - *TOO EXPENSIVE!* The Cybertruck… $120,000 …that's crazy! 🤪 Why aren't American car companies making these things? Why do people need a second mortgage just to go to work or buy groceries? I didn't see in the video if it mentioned the cost of one of these three-wheeled trucks. But if it's like a typical Micah story, it's probably cheap! I tried to get excited about the Aptera, but even that three wheeled vehicle looks expensive… and it's not even here yet. There's also the cute Nimbus EV, again not available, which was said to be around $10,000. So if this truck autocycle thing was available in America, for around $15,000, wouldn't it sell like cupcakes?!

In Italy we have the "Ape" (bee) which is very similar. Small vehicles make sense as long as you keep your ego out of it. There is also the fact that while most Chinese farms are small family businesses, most North American farms are huge and require much bigger machinery and longer distances to cover. Personally I think smaller is better, as much for the vehicles as for the farms. Allows more people to work.

I used to think that this type of tricycle belonged to agricultural vehicles, and American agricultural vehicles were mostly fuel powered pickup trucks. Because American farmers are relatively wealthy and fuel prices are not so high in the US, pickup trucks are also more powerful, so they do not need this type of electric tricycle, so there is no manufacturer to manufacture it. Now, after I have watched some videos, I think these kinda tricycle should‘t be completely without a market in the US. Perhaps only American car makers do not like this type of low profit things, after all, American production and labor costs are too high, selling it too cheap will not make a profit, selling it too expensive and no one will buy it.

Honestly, these make sense even with the outrageous tariffs - they cost something like $1000 for no cabin, around $3000 for semi-closed and closed cabins. Add some upgrades and a better battery pack, that's 2k and 4-5k. Slap the 100% tariff on top, and you're still under 10k for most configurations. These things are becoming popular in rural areas in Europe too, but as usual there's problems with legislation. They're either registered as L electric bikes with 25km/h top speed or L3 with 50km/h top speed.
