Hamburger Hochbahn (the underground and bus company of Hamburg) has declared its bus line 109 to be an innovation line. Here buses with alternative traction types are tested: Diesel hybrid, fuel cell and battery buses.
In this video you can see Solaris battery buses and Volvo plug-in hybrid buses. The Volvo buses resemble the Diesel hybrid buses type Volvo 7900 (many of this type are used by Hamburger Hochbahn) but they have got larger batteries. These enable them to travel several kilometers just by electrical power, without the Diesel engine. This mode of operation can be watched on line 109 quite often. The Solaris buses are electric battery buses without a combustion engine. Buses of both manufacturers can be charged by the charging poles standing at both ends of the line. There are two charging poles in Alsterdorf and two at Hauptbahnhof/ZOB (Hamburg central station). The charging technique was provided by Siemens.
You can see the buses passing various points along the line: Dorotheenstraße (Hamburg-Winterhude), Alsterdorf (underground station), Hauptbahnhof/ZOB, Mönckebergstraße, and Rathausmarkt.
