@@angodamango In this case it was obviously down to the driver who turned in too late. Going forward, those buses turn almost as easily as a standard 12m rigid bus, the two trailers follow the first part pretty much exactly in its tracks. It's a whole lot different when you go in reverse, as the steering of the 3rd and 4th axles is linked to the bus part before: the 3rd axle is linked to the first part of the bus and the 4th to the middle part, so they steer in the same direction as the 'hinge' ahead of them as long as it's not totally straight. Going backwards in a straight line for more than a very few meters is practically impossible. In Brasil they use similar buses but with rigid axles, they can be as easily reversed as a truck with a trailer.

Okay I can describe it like that: it is big, long, chunky, and not easily-maneuverable but a marvel of mechanics.
@MirkoC4073 жыл бұрын
Technically not - it's a single bus pulling two trailers and the joints happen to be roofed. Mechanically this is easy stuff. The single articulated buses with drive to the trailer axle (easy to recognize by the twin tires on the trailer axle) are technically much more sophisticated because you need a heck of dampers and regulators to avoid the driven trailer trying to overtake the front part.
@rjbeast1233 жыл бұрын
@@MirkoC407 Nice to know (haven't seen the inside)! But the motor is in the back, right? Which axle is powering the bus?
@MirkoC4073 жыл бұрын
@@rjbeast123 Nope, the engine is underfloor in the first part between the axles, hence the radiator air vents in the side body panels there. Drive axle is the rear axle of the first part. In this case easy to see because it is the only one with twin tires. On a single articulated pusher design you usually have two axles with twin tires becasue the axle in front of the joint would be overload with single tires and the drive axle in the rear part needs twins for traction. As a rule of thumb you can say for artuculated buses that the drive axle is always the rearmost axle with twin tires.

I think this system could be easily improved. How about using two guides in the road, maybe made out of steel, with grooves to steer the wheels. The wheels need to have a special shape then and could also be made of steel to reduce wear. And then an overhead catenary to supply electricity for driving. With this simple additions it would be possible to lenghten the bus even more. But it also needs a new name then... what about "Transport Running Along Metalrails" or just TRAM...?

Things like too steep hills can be a problem for trams.They can be useful. Most of the time you're better of with a Tram. Or you have a bridge which can't handle the weight.they're much lighter than a tram. (Those of bernmobil are only 24t empty, their trams range from 45-60t empty). Bernmobil over here uses them only on 1 line. otherwise the rather use trams. i think it probably that the major bridge is only designed to take 40t, and it would cost a insane amount to reinforce it or built a separate one for the tram (probably also not allowed as the area is historical.)

@weeardguy4 жыл бұрын
Nope. It could be these buses feature bend-protection (there's a better word for it, but I don't know it), warning the driver he's about to stress the articulated joints on his vehicle. It could be it had already kicked in at this point. Some articulated buses then even refuse to supply power to the motor to prevent damage from occuring. Than you could face the overhang of the front, which could collide with the traffic light if he would have turned the wheels to the right. Most important thing is that the wheels on the mid-section are steering as well. Not as much as the front-wheels, but they do help in taking tight curves, but are probably a pain in the ass in these situations.

Begrijp me niet verkeerd. Mooi filmpje!

Where is the Engine in these buses? What axle drives them?

I think the second axle is the driving axle.

We had them for like 10 years or so until they got out of service in 2018. It was such a joy. Sitting in the back moving forwards while the driver is 90° of you, going somewhere else :D

@@wisecat. It's not an air raid siren. It's the civilian alert system to alert the population in case of a disaster.

Seriously how many people does it take to line up a bus? I can not reverse any vehicle from driving but I do collect vehicles and messing about I have managed to reverse three trailers just from challenging myself! That was a long time ago when I had road trains.

Quite stupid especially since they don't even seem to be full.

Its also clearl that the rear has no steering to match the front. Where a single double deck bus with a council that built a proper road network to allow them would reduce the risks that these have.

@jorgmehlhorn75554 жыл бұрын

@Tvuvtctoj46fck10 ай бұрын
They absolutely are. Even with those 25 meter busses capacity still is tight. And why would a company spend lots of money on a series of buses they dont need?

They tell us these extra long bendy buses are just like trams. This video clearly shows one advantage of a tram that this bus doesn't have - if you back it up a tram just follows the rails.
