Imagine the ID.7 being the normal RWD edition with the same battery and 19" wheels. It would blew all the others away in efficiency. It's the clear winner for me. BMW too expensive and no practical backseats, Porsche way over budget and unpractical, Zeekr too much consumption and no dealers (resale value?), Nio not big enough. Great video btw, good job!

I actually got the BMW due to the price: great finance offers which makes it really competitive. It does need a bigger battery for the car it is. But the ID7 is the logical choice with the single motor. Lots of space, great efficiency and comfort, just not premium enough. Hence my preference for the A6 avant.
@DFowlesID728 күн бұрын
I totally agree, I tested a whole suite of family EV's throughout the summer and autumn. Genuinely loved the BMW but considering the price and to spec it everything in the UK costs extra it did not even make the shortlist. The ID7 is a tad 'dull' but the idea of the test was for a family sized car efficiency test and the VW ID7 is luxurious for all the occupants, comfortable to drive and as you say in the RWD configuration with heat pump even more efficient. A clear win for me. Found it amusing to people from the land of the boxes on wheels (aka volvos) complaining about uninspiring to drive and own !

Why is it better than the id7?
@marcusfleuti267229 күн бұрын
I prefer NIO because i is a lot cheaper, has better software, more power, better built than VW (modern platform, VW still uses a gazillion of controllers and complex communications between then which increases risks of electronic failures), NIO has the bigger battery and in future they might also bring the 150 kWh battery to Europe, Battery Swap is just GREAT (I tested it) and I think the ET5T looks much better than the ID7. I can get a fully equipped NIO for 50k. Since I usually drive the car for 4-6 years it is the much better deal than a 80k ID7. And the higher performance I enjoy a lot.

Thanks, for the review. The ID 7 is currently the most interesting EV in terms of overall package in my view. If I remember correctly the GTX comes with 19 inch winter tyres. Therefore, the range difference to the ProS should only be minimal. The main driver of range difference between the GTX (minimum 20 inch on summer tyres) and the ProS (minimum 19 inch) is the size of the tyres. With 19 inches on the ProS the de facto range difference to the GTX is about 80km, while it is only 40km if the ProS is on 20 inches. Same should apply in winter as the GTX is only offered with the 19 inches. That is the reason why on most reviews the range difference between GTX and ProS are only minimal as the test cars from VW often come with the 20 inch tyres. I ordered the ProS Tourer with 19 inches due to the range difference. It is a bit annoying that VW does not offer the GTX with 19 inches (summer tyres). Then I possibly would have gone for the GTX.

Big surprice whas when i used the car-configurer for each model. My configuration was long-range, black and bare minimum interior that i could live with. In Sweden the Zeekr was actually the cheepest. Zeekr - 693.000sek, VW id7 - 738.000sek, BMW 793.000sek, NIO(if you buy the battery, like in the other cars)- 825.000sek, Taycan - 1.500.000sek. This test is among station wagons. Tesla never had one, unfortunately. It's all about Elon Musk ego even in shape design.
@martinekstrom63034 күн бұрын
@@nevco8774Well. Station wagon is not a very practical design for an EV considering fitting a battery under the floor and having space in a low profile . The BMW and some others has a huge front but no practical use for loading. Space is dead. It’s an ICE car design put in an EV capacity and that is doing huge compromises, not an optimum design. The model Y has more space than these and still having way better efficiency than any of these, so the lower profile doesn’t result in better efficiency. Also; the cars in these test like the Porsche really wagons?

@ItsOnlyElectric27 күн бұрын
kWh/km is now the official way of reporting consumption..WLTP uses it.
@Vercixx24 күн бұрын
It's easier to mentally estimate total consumption if efficiency is expressed in consumption per output. If your needed output is 460 km and you're making 21 kwh/100km, your total consumption is 21 x 460/100 or 21 x 4.6 kWhs which is fairly easy to compute mentally (multiply by 4 which is easy to compute and add 60% so a bit more than half of your consumption/100km). If efficiency is expressed in ouput per unit of consumptuon, so 21 kwh/100km becomes 4.76 km/kwh, good luck deviding 460 by 4.76.

It's interesting to see that the Chinese cars had the worst consumption. I would not have expected that.
@shinoMusic26 күн бұрын
@@Rob_Dekker thats not really true tho, the NIO had less consumption than the Porsche and the BMW. If I understood it correctly in the video the NIO just has reserved more battery as a buffer and allows 90kw/h net capacity and instead of the 100 Porsche allows. So the car allows less range than the Taycan while being more efficient.

Efficiency, features, price that ID7 looks like the best all around car. I get it that it isn't the premium experience of the other cars. Premium cars are a category of their own really. So if you excluded the ID7 that would be a harder decision. I would probably say the BMW in the premium class of these cars because of the size, space, and all the bells and whistles. But if it was my money the ID7 Tourer would be it. I just wish we could get that car in the US. The added space of the wagon is so nice.

Thanks for this video which is both informative and exciting to watch. We're in the market for an EV in this class. What I'm missing is a broader perspective that reflects how large purchases of a family car are decided. In the real world, spouses who share budgetary and driving responsibilities on that proverbial drive to Idre should be given a voice. Can your partners do a "revenge of the sambos" version of the test? And why not give the kids a voice?

Nice Video. Thx. Did you ever consider to put the fuel consumption in proportion to the specific Net Weight of the different Cars? Would make some sense in my opinion. Especially Cars with LFP Batterys may have a Disadvantage regarding Power to Weight ratio. As far i know the Zeekr 001 is using an LFP Battery Powered System, which i would prefer regarding Longevity. The higher Weight could explain a part of the higher Fuel-Consumption. Keep on doing Videos like this. I´m from Germany and looking for the next Electric Car. All presented Cars are in Selection, except Porsche. Range, overall Storage Space, Material Quality and Value echoed are the Main Criterias. Zeekr still is not present in Germany while writing, which i do understand, because Germany as a difficult Market Place caused by very high electricity Prices, which will remain for longer time on that niveau.
@ItsOnlyElectric29 күн бұрын
That's a Interesting topic..weight is not as bg factor as we may think. Most important is air resistance and wheel size. The Zeekr does have a NMC pack, one of the main reasons for the high consumption is the big 22" wheels and wide 265 tires.
@Afclogic29 күн бұрын
@@ItsOnlyElectric Hey, welcome your reply. Thx. Air resistance is sure the main criteria, you´re right. Big Wheel sizes and wide Tires don´t help either. Wanna be pretty, so you have to suffer 🙂 As far as i know Zeekr is using LFP Batterys either. Maybe depending to the exact Model. Another great car that i´m considering is the Xpeng G6. Great Value and low Power Consumption. Drove it for an day, really surprised. Wish you a merry Christmas an a happy New Year 2025

In your case I would go for an AWD for sure. Since I own a model Y today I wouldn't go for a new Y until the facelift is available, not because it's a bad car but because I don't want to swap to the same car. Similar consumption. But 800v architecture so better charging speeds, better interior, and still not as pricey as Porsche. Thats why i think if they include it, Audi would be a winner ;-)

@@petrbrok2468 Better charging speed if you have a 800V charging charger, if not it will be much slower. I'm in the process of selecting either A6 or ID.7 as my next car, there really is not so much difference between both cars. I estimate 15 min over 1000 km in between both cars. Anyway, A6 will be in the showroom mid of January, and I will decide after a test drive. But I won't pick the A6 for it's "superior range", it will need to convince me being worth 15 k€ more on other elements.

@@ItsOnlyElectric Ja precis, dessutom.

It would be more interesting to drive at a higher speed (130 or more). The consumption will change significantly. I think that if you drive faster, the Porsche would outperform the others. A Porsche is not made for slow cruising 😉 Were the tire pressures checked before the trip? Does that also play a big role in fuel consumption?

Thanks for a great review guys! When selecting my company car (förmånsbil) I consumed all EV tests available, tested and thought over and over again. In late March I tested the ID7 and was ready to order the GTX version (north Sweden = SNOW = AWD needs). Unfortunately delivery in November was too late for me. Instead I got the Zeekr 001 Performance in mid June. I’m very happy with it and really like the look and feel. Yes, it’s a bit thirsty, but it should be with its weight and 22” winter tires 😂 (I guess it’s one of the heaviest of the tested?). I notice it’s more thirsty when going to the mountain areas (uphill) vs going back home to the coast (downhill). Your test show similar results, relatively more thirsty going to Idre compared to the total trip. Anyway, it’s funny that consumption was an unusual topic amongst men discussing cars before the EV era. Now it’s more or less the main focus of all tests and discussions. Personally I like that the Zeekr is developed in Gothenburg and tested in beautiful Arjeplog (the winter car testing center of Europe). However, I would still pick the ID7 GTX if I would choose today and could get a timely delivery. Keep up the good work and Happy New Car Testing Year!

Thanks for your great insight and congratulations to a great car despite not getting the ID7! 😅 Gott nytt år! 🎉

The Porsche is the car I want, the ID7 is the logical car. I ended up getting a BMW i5 (sedan, since the touring wasn’t available yet). Why: the interior of the VW isn’t that good, the bigger battery on the ID7 wasn’t available yet (neither was the wagon). And scarily: the actual price of the I5 and ID7 isn’t that different on a company rent. On the 19” wheels my consumption is quite good. In summer I manage around 17-18kWh/100km, in the winter it is just under 20, but haven’t done big trips in the winter yet. It could do with a bigger battery. If I were to get a new car now it would probably be a Audi A6 avant performance. The Porsche is great, but just a bit to expensive for me. The NIO has a bad interior (to me) and just like the zeker (to high a consumption) it isn’t available in my country. Instead of the Zeekr I’d rather have the Polestar 3.
