5 executions have taken place in Tennessee's electric chair of Daryl Keith Holton in 2007, Edmund George Zagorski and David Earl Miller in 2018, and Stephen Michael West and Leroy Hall Jr in 2019 without any problems and now on February 20th of this year Nicholas Todd Sutton since he has opted for the electric chair. How much more should we listen to Fred Leuchter being that he did all of this work without a license.

Don't pay attention to the claims of Fred Leuchter. He is NOT an engineer and has not been involved with the operations of the chair in twenty-five years. The electrical system designed by Leuchter was found to be flawed. It was determined through testing by a real electrical engineer that it was only capable of delivering voltage at 4 amps. This system was renovated by the real electrical engineer to deliver 1,750 volts at 7.5 amps, which would be lethal. Both Daryl Holton and Edmund Zagorski were cleanly executed by this chair.
@randymarsh62536 жыл бұрын
0.5A is fatal and 4A would definitely do you in. 7.5A is really overkill. Not that overkill is a bad thing
@randymarsh62536 жыл бұрын
Leutcher is a scam artist. Not that he did bad work, but he basically scammed the states to come test equipment and update it as his warranty expired under the threat he’d make for a expert witness when death row inmates sued over the constitutionality of the state’s method. Basically would come around every so often and extort the state out of some money.
@MontgomeryMall6 жыл бұрын
@@randymarsh6253 Yes, the antics of Leuchter caught the attention of assistant attorney general Ed Carnes of Alabama. Carnes headed the state capital litigation unit at that time. In July, 1990, Carnes authored and distributed a memo to all of the other states practicing capital punishment warning them not to deal with Fred Leuchter because of his shakedown scheme. Leuchter's business in capital punishment systems soon dried up afterwards.

Montgomery Mall pretty slick little racket. Bold. It had to take a lot of nuts to extort an arm of the state’s executive branch like that. Especially without any backing. It’s a miracle that he didn’t find himself in prison. To be fair I don’t think any botched executions came from his equipment. But who knows. I’m not particularly for the death penalty honestly. It’s just a burden on taxpayers. Here in Tennessee the most common cause of death for condemned inmates is natural causes so why even bother. I don’t have sympathy for killers but and would love to see them executed on the courthouse lawn, but I live in the real world where that’s not fixing to happen. In the real world they get so many appeals that they can almost keep their case in litigation until they die of old age.

The real reason Leuchter was shut down was that he foolishly agreed to testify on behalf of notorious Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel. He (Leuchter) travelled to Auschwitz and, following some dodgy sampling and even dodgier analysis of those samples, concluded that there could have been no gas chambers in that concentration camp. Following the understandable outrage that ensued, investigators proved deeper into Leuchter’s background and found that he was practising engineering without an engineering degree or a license.

This reporter's continuous mispronunciation of Mr. Leuchter's name is really annoying. If he had bothered to watch even a minute or two of the same film that he shows an excerpt from, he would know that the name is pronounced "LOYK-ter" not "LOO-cher." This shows really poor preparation and lack of professionalism. Even worse, the reporter shows a complete lack of journalistic responsbility by giving Mr. Leuchter a public forum to state an opinion on ANYTHING. Again, if the reporter had bothered to do even a minimum of research, such as simply watching the film that he cites, he would know that Mr. Leuchter is neither a scientist, nor an engineer, nor an authority on anything, and that he was thoroughly exposed, discredited, and disgraced years ago. Nothing Mr. Leuchter thinks or says is even minimally newsworthy, and hasn't been for a long time.
