Electric Dreams Demo in VR - Unreal Engine 5.2 (RTX 4090)

Hello guys welcome back to another video. In this video we are going to be checking out the Electric Dreams Demo inside of Unreal Engine 5.2 but this time in VR. I am using the Oculus Quest 2 Headset, using the wireless quest link to stream the demo from my PC to the VR headset. This demo is absolutely insane running in VR, and it looks more realistic than anything else out there in terms of VR games or demos.

Bought the course. Real good so far! any chance you add VR to it? Would probably be better to simply use 2D menu for crafting and such no to over complicate the thing, but adding a VR view + hands and laser pointer 2D menu would be very appreciated.

It is mesmerising how ordinary folk do not even comprehend what's coming, take this demo, put Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal, add dinosaurs, guns and objectives, do you see the picture now!!!????? Imagine you are in a Jurassic Jungle at night, it's raining with a thunderstorm, you hide with your mates in the bushes while Velociraptors are roaming around!!!

I have been watching your channel for awhile, but this VR content got me to subscribe! Your crafting/survival game tutorial is very intriguing to me, but I'd only be interested in diving in if I could make it in VR. A game like that with nanite Megascan assets in VR is sorely needed!

I wish Epic will release a PSVR 2 demo of this (just like they did with the Matrix), I know the PS5 is not nearly as powerful as RTX 4090 but with a lot of optimizations and foveated rendering it might work

I really like your VR enthusiasm. I myself just love it, but I never use it because it just feels like it's never hitting its full potential. I still own a Rift. But maybe I should try this demo out with my 3060 and see what happens. Keep dreaming those VR dreams.

I'd be interested to know if you can run this on a 3060 in VR. I have a 3080 and I can barely get 30 FPS with just a regular camera.

4:44 woooo woooo, not yet not yet....Mordentral of VRE mentioned a major issue with 5.2 regarding VR replication that they still yet to fix....so, just a heads up, if anyone wanna use 5.2 with VR? for the time being make it a single player game till epic fixes that issue. But yeah, nanite and Lumen working in VR is always a great news

Perhaps you have the answer to this question. If you have characters animated in your scene could you possibly see the characters acting out that scene while in VR?

Hey Poly, you mentioned it works right out of the box for VR, what's the process? Just open the right level, target device set as VR like normal and hit play? Sorry, new PC is on order but I'm excited to try this when it arrives!

I will make a tutorial on how to set it up, basically you just add the VR sample project to it, and then set the gamemode. Then drag a nav mesh bounds volume in the level, and a player start.

Oh man. I could really use that tutorial too please. I'm just getting back into VR development. Cannot get my head around how to get this to work properly. I've got the VR Template imported and created a VR Pawn. But it's running at 1fps, not looking around in the VR camera, and just being jenky. Running on a 4090 with a 7950 processor. So I'm guessing it should run ok? Running on the Quest Pro cabled link.

How did You manage to run it? When i add openXR to project. Then run steam VR. And do preview in VR it does like 300ms in steam vr and crashes directx12. Same gpu.

This is without DLSS 3 right? hopefully they'll add VR support soon. What about FSR 2? Supposedly FSR 2 updated for UE 5.2 but I couldn't get it to run. For some reason this makes me want to shout "This is what I live for!" if anyone get's that reference. Also "What a time to be alive!"

Cant wait for 4090 level of performance is like 100$ so graphics are next gen all the time and we can get these kinds of graphics and more in VR in every game. Maybe in 10 years. All thats missing in this is like water you can play with VR hands that integrates water physics, caustics and all that in raytracing. But that takes a huge amount of cpu and gpu power. I hope consoles next gen can give 4090 performance, at least.

@@SmartPoly yeah, would be cool to see these on high end headsets, Crystal is 8.3Mp per eye... that's the highest end headset currently. Every video i have seen people testing some of these Unreal demos has been on quest 2. Are you able to distribute this as an executable? Or can this be only done via the engine?

You know the Quest 2 is probably one of the highest pixel ratio headset on PCVR right? It beats the index. Pimax and Varjo are leagues above of course...

Is VR a native option in the demo? I have a ll the high end hardware and a Quest 2. Just never run Unreal engine in VR/Quest before

Most of these demos don't have native VR support, but if you can get the Unreal Engine editable version of the level (not just the .exe that allows you to play the demo), it isn't very hard to add a VR actor into the scene.

I got 25fps on a 4090. Tried to get DLSS3 to work (without frame generation) but the new way to implement it somehow did not seem to work. Might be that the VR Preview is not supported? Anyone else tried on 4090 and got better results? This was on the PCG Close Range map.

If I lower vr.pixeldensity to 0.5 I get 35fps but it looks like I am not wearing my glasses :D

@@SmartPoly Same here, running 3090 TI with 7950X. Using a Pico, not Oculus however. I suspect SteamVR is doing something strange perhaps, getting 150ms lag and GPU running out of memory (it's 24GB VRAM not sure how that's happening)
