i got 3.6*10^6 north. q1 and q3 cancel out, so its only q2 thats affecting it. since its an equilateral triangle, you have do 1cos(60) to get the altitude/radius which is 0.5. then you do k*100*10^-6/0.5^2 which gives you 3.6*10^6 north

Good lecture. Part b) assumes that the charged particle is almost touching the negative plate so that the distance traveled by the charge becomes 1cm. If not stated then distance moved by the charge can be anything less than 1cm.
