For People who are Confused with the symmetry thing: We Are taking 3 types of symmetries (Sphere, Cylinder, Vertical Cylinder), So that the Electric field vector at any point should always remain perpendicular to the Area (Parallel to the Area Vector), Because of this the Value of Cos∅ is always equal to 1, which saves us from some complicated Integral Calculations.

I think electric flux & electric field are different entities. Electric flux is a physical entity measurable by its density while electric field is force with magnitude and direction. A charge is surrounded by electric flux which decreases as per inverse square law. There is no field around a single charge. Electric field appears only when flux of 1 charge interacts with flux of other charge. In case of similar charges flux b/w charges increase which produces a push/repulsive force while in case of opposite charges flux b/w charges decreases which produces pull/attractive force.

Wish I had this in undergraduate physics. It seems that for Gauss’ Law to work, the charge needs always to be in the center of a surface. This maybe is not realistic, but works as a first approximation.
@MN-sc9qs6 жыл бұрын
Gauss's law always works, but it can actually be done easily if there is symmetry to exploit in the problem. That is why most of the undergraduate problems will have charge distributions that are planar, spherical, or cylindrical in shape.
@tomc6426 жыл бұрын
Marc Normandin Agree, Gauss’s Law applies everywhere, but it can be easily solved in only a few practical cases. Though, there are probably mathematical or computational methods to solve more complex cases, like electric fields in semiconductors.
