Lyrics She was young once Girl of the bohemian kind In the cold bright dawn We watched her grow Wisdom begun Season when the river was high On the grey stone lawn I walked alone Me and my heart following the shadow she made Like a dull sky day I chased the sun Back at the start I was still in love with the way It's a long long way from what's become She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she plays now turn the other way She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played she played Newly grown-up Folded up the colors she wore See the all new girl All rehearsed and well Filling my cup Playing at the edge of the shore See the way she moves I broke the spell She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game plays now turn the other way She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played she played Oh no Try to fix it before you break it Then it's gone Oh no i go on i go on She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played now turn the other way She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played she played Troubleman You wished it all away Gun in hand You found a path today And i know nothing about Troubleman Your faithful Foreign land The sea was made of stone And i know nothing about He's gotten bad for me He's gotten bad for me The only game he played now turn the other way He's gotten bad for me He's gotten bad for me The only game he played he played Troubleman We used to shade the dead Ship unmanned The rain was just ahead And i know nothing about Where troubleman Is just an empty name Oh no Try to fix it before you break it Oh no You go on We go on

I was in my freshmen year in college, doing my very first assignment and this song just pops up in the autoplay. The song sent a chill down my spine so I stopped for a moment and just enjoy the music with my exhausted mind. For the whole semester I played the song everytime I'm doing my work at my place because of the pandemic. Some times later I just forgot about the song, only until today, I'm doing my final year report, as I'm graduating next month, the song just pops again in my autoplay. I took a deep breath, realizing nothing has change over the course of time, except that I don't have the enthusiasm as a freshmen anymore, and the pandemic slowly dies down. Time do flies, it really does.

For anyone who may be interested, the album art is based on the Bronze Head of Augustus excavated in 1910 from the archaeological site of Meroe City in what is now Sudan (Africa). Meroe City was the capital of the Meroitic Kingdom that occupied the territory of modern Sudan c.300 BCE - 350 CE (around 2000 years ago). The head is a representation of Augustus (Rome's first emperor reigned 27 BCE - 14 CE) and is generally thought to have belonged to a complete statue set up in southern Egypt (Aswan). At this time (the late 1st century BCE), Egypt had just been annexed by the Roman Empire who, in the 20s BCE, made moves to expand into the Meroitic Kingdom south of Egypt. Evidently, this was not to the liking of the Meroitic people who, so the story goes (Pliny the Elder, Strabo, Dio Cassius - all classical sources), promptly invaded Aswan, tore the statue down, and took the bronze head back to their capital (Meroe). Around 1900 years later it was excavated by the then professor of Egyptology at Liverpool University (John Garstang, UK) and, shortly afterwards, acquired by the British Museum where it is now on display. It is a spectacular example of Early Roman bronze sculpture and an interesting case study for considering Rome's interactions with Africa beyond Egypt. Do go and see it, if you are in London: www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/G_1911-0901-1

Once upon a time, there was a young girl who possessed the bohemian spirit. She was free-spirited and unafraid to explore the world around her. As she grew older, she gained wisdom and became a beacon of light for those around her. In the cold, bright dawn, we watched her mature and blossom into a beautiful woman. During the season when the river was high, I walked alone on the gray stone, with my heart following the shadow she made. I chased her like a dull sky day, hoping to bask in the warmth of her presence once again. Although I was still in love with the way she was, it was a long way from what had become of us. She had gotten bad for me, playing the only game she knew how to play. So I turned the other way, hoping to fix things before they broke beyond repair. But as she grew up and wore a new color, I realized that the girl I once knew had become rehearsed and well-practiced in her ways. I filled my cup with her new persona, but it was all just a façade. Suddenly, I broke the spell she had cast over me, and she got bad for me once again. But this time, it was different. I was dealing with a Troubleman, who wished everything away with a gun in hand. He had found a new path today, but I knew nothing about it. His faith was long gone in a foreign land where the sea was made of stone. The Troubleman and I used to shake the dead and sail ships unmanned, but now the rain was just ahead, and I knew nothing about where he was headed. Troubleman was just an empty name to me, and I was left to try to fix things before they broke beyond repair. Then it was gone, and I had to go on, as did we all.

@politonno24992 жыл бұрын
You might have wrote this comment in early 2021. I discovered this amazing song around that time, and it brings memories of my high school social and psicological diffuculties I was passing through then. By the very end of 2020 I used to stare at the PC, watching KZbin videos about SpaceX Starship rocket and music to distract me from my personal problems, discussions with everyone and existential crisis, and then this song appeared. It was very chilling, long and really cool. It made me think about myself, maybe it was just me trying to solve a problem that it appeared spontaneously on me, and then I extrapolated it to every conflict I had with myself and every person close to me. Maybe I just had to let it go, stop getting frustrated with everything Along with Maryia Takeguchi's "Plastic Love", this song marked the beginning of the resolution of my mental breakdown, the end of that dark period. To pass away all those issues, my parents, my friends and my teacher showed love for me, it was the first time anyone apart from my mother showed true love and affection for me. That's why those memories come to my mind instead of others, it was the first time of an important feeling. I have been listening to this song again and again since then but I can only remember those times, when my life made a big change.

So much I love about this piece. - The fact that it's almost two songs due to the big change mid-song - The equally big change in the perspective of the song at that mid-song point going from he/she to she/he. Always perplexed and enchanted by the many possible meanings there. - The amazing quality of the recording - The amazing use of synths and effects - The spectacular composition where the balance between the keyboards, vocals, drums, etc all work together to complement each other perfectly throughout - The dynamics where it gets so silent in parts of the song before regaining speed and volume... just reminds me of a storm passing through with the accompanying intensity variations I could just go on and on. I think I heard a song by Electric Guest in a bar/restaurant a long time ago and Shazam'ed it and then ended up exploring all of their stuff. This is probably my absolute favorite piece they've done. I'd put this up side anything by Pink Floyd or anyone else in terms of composition, recording quality, and depth of lyrics. It's all so friggin good. Hope they get back together and find a way to recapture that magic time they had here. It was/is awesome.

[Verse 1] She was young once Girl of the bohemian kind In the cold, bright dawn We watched her grow Wisdom begun Season when the river was high On the gray stone long I walked alone Me and my heart Following the shadow she made Like a dull sky day I chased the sun Back at the start I was still in love with the way It's a long way From what's become [Chorus 1] She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played Now turn the other way She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played, she played [Verse 2] Newly grown up Folded up, the color he wore See the all new girl Rehearsed and well Filling my cup Playing at the edge of the shore See the way she moves I broke the spell [Chorus 1] She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played Now turn the other way [Hook 1] Oh, no Try to fix it 'fore you break it Then it's gone Oh, no I go on, I go on [Chorus 1] She's got it bad for me She's got it bad for me The only game she played Now turn the other way [Interlude/Transition] [Verse 3] Troubleman You wished it all away Gun in hand You found a path today And I know nothing about Troubleman Your faith was long ago Foreign land The sea was made of stone And I know nothing about [Chorus 2] He's gotten bad for me He's gotten bad for me The only game he played Now turn the other way He's gotten bad for me He's gotten bad for me The only game he played, he played [Verse 4] Troubleman We used to shake the dead Ship unmanned The rain was just ahead And I know nothing about Where Troubleman Is just the empty name [Hook 2] Oh, no Try to fix it 'fore you break it Then it's gone Oh, no You go on, we go on

Always come back to this song. It will always have a special place in my heart. First heard it years ago and still to this day it doesn't get old. Man I miss good music.
@kaiser98berlin2 жыл бұрын
After his striking statement in the intro detailing his predicament singing as loudly as he can wishing to be heard then at 5:23 he goes another round of reassurance of questioning why this happens by deliberately pondering literature of life and death, nature and manmade. Hinting us a concept of calm before the storm or seeking enlightenment answer before his second reprise then at 6:20 he becomes enlightened by showing frustration but slowly and surely transition calmly into deliverance where taking acceptance once and for all turn into a new man forgetting his past by forgiving and let go. This whole part is my favourite of all!

I love it that a song is like almost 9 minutes and still gets watched by millions. Popular radio stations are often too afraid to play so many good songs just because they get over the five minute mark. And listening through such a long track feels like a wonderful journey.
@xanderdavis11793 жыл бұрын
Sorry bro, I was just listening to stairway to heaven on the radio the other day
@soulangela71542 жыл бұрын
With good reason so. If a song came on that I disliked, I might keep listening to that station for just that song, but if the song is NINE MINUTES? God no, I'll switch to another channel and maybe I like that one more and not go back to the first station. Obviously they want to keep you on their station as long as possible. They could maybe shorten this song and fade it out at 3:08 or 4:29 but I don't know how permissions work with stuff like that. We like this song and come back here because we like it, but not everybody feels like listening to a song for nine minutes.

This is one of those songs that you listen to, and on the first time, think "Eh, this is pretty good, but I won't add it to my playlist." Then the second time you come around, you think "man, why didn't I add this to my playlist?" And then you end up listening to it on repeat for hours.

I remember listening to this song in my first year at the uni. Covid, online studying. I had a huge crush on the guy from my group (he turned out to be an asshole). Life was boring, not what I expected back in school, but this song pulled me together those days. I came across it accidentally. I haven't listened to it for almost a year. Strange but a great feeling of finding something great again. Just wanted to share:)

Memories can be a beautiful thing sometimes. I discovered this song in early 2021, when I was passing through a crisis, but I've been listening it over and over again and only those memories come to mind. I discovered that song in about the same time as you, at the full pandemic. It wasn't a struggle in the first ~10 months, but when the first year of batxillerat (last 2 years of high school, specific studies, 16 years old) begun. I expected nice people interestes in my subject, which was science, but it turned out that no one in my classroom was my friend. I struggled with that the whole year, I changed my classroom after the first week, a clasroom where all my friends were united there (why the heck wasn't I???), but the classroom for specific subjects was the same as previous. When I had problems, no one helped. People without mask made very mad. When I attended to online classes, where I was really unconfortable. I also have Asperger's, there was important homework and exams questions I misunderstood and did heavily wrong. That was the beginning of my dawnfall, I began to think that maybe science (which has been my passion since a kid) wasn't my thing and that I had to leave studies. I asked for help to my teachers but only one did something for me, the others did nothing. By that time, I got easily angry with every person in my life who interacted with me, and when I wasn't mad I always spoke making only jokes, my mind didn't want to make me express myself. 2020 was a great year for me and my family economy, but that period was over. By the very end of that year I used to stare at the PC, watching KZbin videos about SpaceX Starship rocket and music to distract me from my personal problems, discussions with everyone and existential crisis, and then this song appeared. It was very chilling, long and really cool. It made me think about myself, maybe it was just me trying to solve a problem that it appeared spontaneously on me, and then I extrapolated it to every conflict I had with every. Maybe I just had to let it go, stop getting frustrated with everythin. The case is that I had to take action by myself, not depending on anyone, and ask for real help. Along with Maryia Takeguchi's "Plastic Love", this song marked the beginning of the resolution of my mental breakdown, the end of that dark period. To pass away all those issues, my parents, my friends and my teacher showed love for me, and that I was passing through a depression, it was the first time anyone apart from my mother showed true love and affection for me. That's why those memories come to my mind instead of others, it was the first time of an important feeling. I have been listening to this song again and again since then but I can only remember those times, when my life made a big change.
