They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Rockaria!", "Do Ya", "Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Last Train To London", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight", "The Way Life's Meant To Be", "Here Is The News", "Ticket To The Moon" etc.

Everyone always talks about Jeff Lynne like he was the only one in ELO. He’s a genius, no doubt, but this was a stellar *band*. This video features the classic lineup, with Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy, Kelly Groucutt (whose harmony vocals were amazing), Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, and Melvyn Gale. This group of talented musicians created the classic ELO sound we all love, not just Jeff Lynne
@brettfolkerth76122 жыл бұрын
Jeff Lynne wrote, arranged, and produced nearly every note of music that ELO recorded. Yes, everyone you listed were great musicians, but Jeff Lynne "Created" the sound, they just played it.
@johnhoerl73262 жыл бұрын
@@brettfolkerth7612 I know this has been a source of great discussion/controversy over the years, and unfortunately resulted in the estrangement of Jeff from the other band members. Jeff was the unquestioned musical leader after Roy Wood departed, and as you say was responsible for writing the lyrics and main musical elements of the songs. However, he most certainly did not write every single note for all of the other band members, who added their own flair and talent to each song. So much so, in fact, that Kelly among others wanted co-writer credit for many of the songs, which led to lengthy legal wrangling and much acrimony, sadly. Jeff also did not arrange the music by himself. The string arrangements, in particular, which put the “orchestra” in the Electric Light Orchestra during this classic period, were created by Jeff, Richard, and Louis Clark (a truly forgotten member of the ELO creative team) working together. To be clear, none of this takes away from Jeff’s genius in any way. My only point is that Jeff was not a one man show, but rather the leader of a gifted group of musicians working together to create amazing music.
@anthonyshats44272 жыл бұрын
Thank you for making that point
@Dude_Slick2 жыл бұрын
@@johnhoerl7326 The other members worked for Jeff. They were all great musicians in their own right, but Jeff and ELO were one and the same. Why would he bring in people who were not capable of doing his music justice? Of course their contributions mattered, but they played what Jeff wanted. Anything they may have added, was still subject to his approval. He wasn't a one man band, because it was an orchestra and Jeff was writer and conductor. He was however a one man creative force.

"Roll Over Beethoven" is a magical rollercoaster; "Rockaria" manages to combine opera and rock; "Turn to Stone" was the first single on the same album as "Mr. Blue Sky" and is a classic in its own right.

I doubt we'll ever see music like this again. Watching you 2 react really gives me a new appreciation for the music I grew up with. 60's, 70's and 80's were the best

60s and 70s for me big time the music was more real and not computerized like MOST of the 80s

Love love love Electric Light Orchestra! They are so amazing and not appreciated enough! Thanks for doing this 🌺✌️I don’t exactly know how I made this connection in my head, but my train of thought brought me to the realization that you guys haven’t done “Piano Man” by Billy Joel! It is a must. Make sure you do the official music video. Love your channel. 🌺✌️

I remember the first images I saw of ELO in concert back in the 70s (never saw them, sadly). Back around this time or just after their concert stage was a space saucer. Top of ship, revealing band inside, concert began. You two help me feel better when I'm down. Grateful.

The great Jeff Lynne! A couple of favorites-“Sweet Talkin’ Woman” and the less popular “Tight Rope”.

I'll throw you down a line because Tight Rope will NEVER be less popular in either of our books! :-)

E.L.O. is short for Electric Light Orchestra. They did a soundtrack with Olivia Newton John from the movie Xanadu. There was some great music from that soundtrack. My favorite song is "All Over The World."

When he was touring a few years ago here in the U.S. , I got to see them in Philadelphia. It's a must see, the light show, music is amazing. It's ashame within some years these bands will not be touring and you will miss the most talented musicians.

When i first heard this song back in the day I thought they were saying Medival woman. Later when I was buying the album, while reading the tracks on the back of the album and started laughing so hard and people looked at me like I was crazy. Didn't even tried to explain. Just paid for it went home and played it for days.

Very nice. How about “Witchy Woman” from the Eagles? Also “Devil Woman” from Cliff Richard? Goes along with the theme of this song, and roughly around the same time early to mid 70’s.

Witchy Woman is about drugs.

One of the few we have left of that era. And one of the only two left of The Traveling Wilburys. Mr. Blue Sky, Telephone Line, Living Thing...so many.

"Living Thing" and "Strange Magic" would be nice reactions too.

E.L.O is a 70's band. This released in 1975, song was played in the disco club. A lot of string instruments was great to dance to. Great reaction.

You two need to watch them LIVE! There are some great concert videos of Jeff Lynne's ELO as recent as the last couple of years - they sound even BETTER live!
