I can tell you as a former Navy wife, this song is not just for bands on the road. It can apply to military couples as well. My husband and I met in the service. We were both planning to make a career out if, but he was sent to Iraq and I was sent to a stateside post. He was gone for 18 months and when he came back we had two months together and I was deployed while he stayed stateside. We both made the decision to not reenlist as it was no life. This song resonates with me for all the reasons you stated. Still makes me stop and take a breath. The longing was so palpable you could feel it in your bones.

Journey is a great American rock band formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band & Frumious Bandersnatch. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 78-87, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist. They had so many hits including "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms", "Who's Crying Now", "Still They Ride", "Wheel in the Sky", "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", "Faithfully", "Send Her My Love" & "After the Fall".

Truly, my favorite version of the band was before Perry joined in 1977 or so. I saw them live at Foothill College in 1975. They were an awesome progressive rock band with 3 great albums with hits like LOOK INTO THE FUTURE, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT and much more (LOVE the instrumental TOPAZ). They had so much more potential in this direction. But then their producer made them take on Perry, and they became a commercial pop success as the producers hoped. But now they play sweet songs instead of bad-ass rock songs, so even though I like the new hits I consider them second class to the original band. THIS is the sht... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZ7ZgWSemb5-hNU And I consider this their greatest work ever: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5qWaamrZa2ArK8

Hmm, I look at it like this... Faithfully talks about the struggles of maintaining a relationship despite the demands of being a musician. When You Love a Woman is more an observational approach to what makes love. Send Her My Love is about the regret of losing love. All truly excellent songs, but for my money, I'll go with Stay Awhile as journey's best love song, and one of the best all-time - an absolutely gorgeous song that from start to finish that expresses love in a beautiful way. From the desperate desire to just be with that special woman, to the expression of trying to impress and win her. Then the powerful, climactic crescendo at the end, the strings come in, and the rich harmony's culminate perfectly...

I agree Journey has had a few lead singers but Perry’s voice is what brought them to their highest peak for hits. The singers after him all seemed to have the same raspy voice but Steve Perry is one of a kind. I stopped listening to anything they made after he left the band because honestly it was his vocals I wanted to hear. He made plenty of music I listen to all the time.
@stevet7487
@stevet7487 2 жыл бұрын
@@persiascott2490 Journey's first hits were duos with founding member Greg Rollie and Steve Perry. The three initial albums released by the band were very different in style. As much as his voice, Perry's song writing with Neil Schon changed Journey's popularity. Also, if you listen to Steve's first two albums with the band, there is no rasp in his voice. But back then, you toured to sell records, and their management toured the crap out of his voice. By the end of their last tour, he was fried. He was amazing.

I'll be honest, as a dude, this song still chokes me up to this very day, so much passion and raw talent, YEP, great time to be alive back then. Todays music just seems to have a lot of negitivity and society seems to have only gotten violent and hate filled, which is a crying shame. An absolutely heart wrenchingly beautiful song. I remember when the song first came out and I saw the video for the first time, I was touched by the shots of the band and the absolute human essence captured in the juxtaposition of the shots during the video. They weren’t just performers, they were a bunch of guys on the road missing their families/loved ones. And the two most poignant pictures were the band members Climbing the stairs onto a plane and drummer, Steve Smith, holding the carrier with his son, as he climbed the stairs onto the plane while the song plays, “they say that the road ain’t no place to start a family” . Followed by a picture of a long-haired girl in a photograph that pans out to keyboardist Jonathan Cain staring in the mirror where the picture is hung while the song plays “right all the while it’s been you and me.” Jonathan Cain wrote the song, inspired by, and dedicated to the girl in the photo… His wife.

The #1 band for me in the early 80's . The whole Escape album is awesome - "Don't Stop Believing" "Who's Crying Now" "Stone in Love" and the Title track are bangers. Also "Lights" is a must. Fabulous musicians and of course the incomparable Steve Perry - one of the greatest rock tenors. More Journey!

Agreed. I saw them on this tour with Loverboy opening. I was blazed out of my gourd but Journey was so good, I can remember it all…to this day.

I camped out all night with thousands of fans at Charleston Coliseum in WV… What an all night party! The concert sold out in a couple of hours. A guy named Bryan Adams was to be the opening act… I never heard of him. By the time that the show here, Bryan Adams had huge hits! Winning! 😁

I cannot get enough of watching women react to this song!!! The way the chorus just breaks all of them at the same time. Just so beautiful and heart warming. Love is real!!!❤❤❤❤

In this particular song....it's the pause...between "forever yours".... and... .... "faithfully"...... that makes it SO beautiful, romantic and timeless....

Love watching your reactions. I'm 58 and saw Journey several times in the 80's when I was in highschool and just out of highschool. Check out Journy live. 1981 Don't stop Believin and Who's Crying Now. Steve Perry was possibly better live than in the studio. One of the greatest vocalists in any genre of music.

"Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" is probably the song that opened my eyes to Journey, but they have so many GREAT songs. Please get into more soon!

Possibly the most beautiful lyrics ever written "... Through space and time, always another show, wondering where I am lost without you. Being apart ain't easy on this love affair, two strangers learn to FALL IN LOVE AGAIN. I get the JOY OF REDISCOVERING YOU, oh girl you stand by me, I'm FOREVER YOURS... faithfully." I've heard this song 100 times and those lyrics still make me weep, even as they did just now.

Those words and music written by keyboardist Johnathan Cain. He also came up with the title "Don't stop Believing" but presented it to the band and together they fleshed it out. Actually Johnathan went to visit his father while the band was on a break and he was wondering if he should stay with the band since they weren't famous yet and his father said : "Don't Stop Believing". He wrote it in his music book and history was made.

You can't ever go wrong with journey whether it's vintage or their newest stuff! I'm on the Steve Perry bandwagon but their other lead singers past and present have all been good also.

This was my mom’s absolute favorite band when I was little. “Separate Ways,” “Open Arms,” and “Lights” are all good suggestions. And of course “Don’t Stop Believing,” but I am almost sure you’ve heard that one before! “Faithfully” is by far my favorite.
