Nice. but need the fan higher up as your body is hiding about 20% of the fan ... and i would put 2 long runners on the bottom made from HDPE. need to be about 1/2 thick and can replace every couple of years, save wearing out the aluminium and hdpe is extremely slippery and hard wearing .
@johndehosson3 жыл бұрын
Nice idea twith the HDPE @phill, will be looking into that! Placing the fan higher up could be prioritised with a larger/wider hull. If positioned any higher at this stage the center of gravity would cause the boat to become unstable. But definitely with you on free air flow.

A little surprised how much noise the prop makes. (Or is this just the microphone?)
@johndehosson3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment @ian cormie! The propeller is actually relatively "quiet", due to it's large size and relatively low rpms. We have tried a smaller prop and it was extremely loud. We do use hearing protection for this bigger prop though, still too loud to avoid damage in the long run.👍

John, have you tested it when frozen lake is full of soft snow on top of it ? (not pressed snow path) ???
@johndehosson2 жыл бұрын
Hi @S Natras! At one time, we had about 15 cm of snow, and the airboat just ploughed and came to a stop, we think that the problem would arise at 5cm of snow. We also had some "wet snow", on top of relatively "warm ice", (you probably know what I mean)! It created a suction that was impossible to move on. Our guess is that no airboat would have moved in those conditions, it was impossible to even drag our hand drawn sled across the lake. We belive that these situations could be solved using uhmd sheeting, or coating the bottom with slick coat, something we are pondering offering in the production model. Hope this helps, and have a great day! Regards John

Ser ju galet kul ut :-) Hur blir viktfördelning och tyngdpunkt på öppet vatten med den lilla båten?
@johndehosson3 жыл бұрын

Greetings from Central Missouri! I’m loving your build. I’d love to build something similar. What kind of money did this project set you back minus the hull and cage. I’d be interested to know what I’m in for. So the motor is controlled by a Traxxis remote? How’s that all work?

Hi @Down&Dirty! Thanks for dropping a line! :) Cost was prohibitive, have done a bunch of R&D. Blowing stuff up along the way I think I melted more copper than you can find in a thousand 2 cent pieces from 1864 😉! The R&D makes it impossible to put a price on the components, but the kit that is coming will be priced competitively, due to larger order quantities. What kind of range have you gotten? I suppose I would want something at least 10 miles...
@johndehosson3 жыл бұрын
I'd be getting that now quite easily, probably gettinge 15 miles. But that is in what most would say are perfect conditions, i.e. clean ice. So any snow, slush, water, headwinds etc will reduce this, some things more than others.👍
@TW-zj8kw3 жыл бұрын
Hi John. How long would the batteries last when cruising? Tim
@johndehosson3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim! Great question! There's stacks of parameters that effect the range. I'm going to cover it in some coming videos, so hopefully you'll get some more accuracy in the answer. I did a run on some good ice a few days after that video, I got about 18kms out of the batteries I have, so plenty of range for my needs👍 Have a great day⚡
@FishermanClay81088 ай бұрын
I would need a netter battery. 10kms would not get me to where i need to go
@johndehosson7 ай бұрын
Hey FishermanClay8108! Understandable. The boat in this video, was really only meant to zipp over the lake. Due to many expressing to us that they have a similar problem, our philosophy has been to keep stuff as light & nimble as possible while still getting decent range. In this video we where using a tiny battery, that would get 10kms MAX. On our latest airboat we have a 4.8kWh battery, and it will get us 10kms pretty much no matter what. If conditions are good it will go much further than that. We are looking to manufacture a solution that will allow for bigger batteries without making the boat to cumbersome. So stay tuned! Have a great day mate! Cheers🍻

John - I love both your airboat and outboard content! My friend (who lives on a small, true island very similar to yours year-round in Michigan on Harsens Island) upon viewing your airboat videos says: “Can't turn after breaking through thin ice. Must turn boat around somehow to go other way.” Is this really a concern? Is there a simple way to keep going/turn if you break through thin ice, or are you stuck? Thanks, and Congrats!

@@krzysztoflewko9048 Yes, I understand, and we care so much about wildlife too. That's why the electric motor is good, because it is very quiet. The only noise is tip noise from the propeller, but using a large propeller eliminates the need for high RPM nd thus keeps the nnoise to a minimum for the type of machine it is.
