I really don't know why I'm watching this but it was so good that I stayed till the end. good job mate!!!! forgetting the battery happens to the best of us, the small recurring tasks are always the one that falls through the cracks from time to time, I feel sometimes I have to come up with a check with the basics of every project like, check hand brake, unplug battery, verify all connections before putting all covers back together haha. It just happens.

Problem fixed at 2:40. .. .. Made a bigger problem after that. ALWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERY when working with wires or electric functions.

Did you clear the steering error code after the fixes? The code should not be back if the fix was right, otherwise it will be come back.

It’s actually very simple to access the power steering pump without taking off the front bumper

It’s very hard to get to the connectors so you might wana get the head lights out for better excess

My 2013 Mazdaspeed 3 makes me feel like I might have a short somewhere because sometimes when I'm driving my power steering goes away and my dash lights and entertainment center trip out and go on and off. In order for me to fix it I have to stop and turn the car off and back on

Yes, Honda told me I had to replace the rack and pinion for my electric steering and it would be 4,000$. Well you can guess what I told them.

Same issue with 2012 Mazda 3 sky. PS pump idiot light comes on and loss of power assist. Also computer lost power but engine stayed running, multiple warning lights came on. Typical place to hide an integral pump!

im having the same issue. i got a used one at the junk yard and it didnt fix it. gonna cvheck the fuses in the morning. i screwed up the red clip a little on the middle one when i took the old pump off

Great video, very informative! I have a 2004 Mazda 3 with hard power steering...The PS warning light is off...How can i rule out if it is the Pump or the rack?

I'd say if, at a stop, if the wheel is as hard to turn with the engine running as it is when it is off, then the pump is not pressurizing the fluid and is the issue. If there is some difference in steering effort between these two conditions, then you have something else going on. Maybe the vehicle speed signal to the PS pump is not working properly making the pump stuck in the "high vehicle speed" mode where it is only providing slight assist? I've not experienced a steering rack failure of any kind, so I'm not sure how a failure of the rack could cause increased steering effort. Good luck!

Point out where check 3 is. Point out where check 4 is? Lastly show how to remove parts and replace broken part? Make it easy on us?

i think you were right to ask why there would have been power on those terminals. either a)power is always live there & all the switching is done inside the part you cleaned. or b) that spark didn't come from the battery. imo its B. That looked distinctly like the characteristic single pop you see off a capacitor. As appose to many little arcs you see when you short a tool across a battery. still not SURE that cause the board failure, but probably wasn't good. btw: a syringe & a tooth brush are handy for cleaning boards. you can "jet" the iso through the syringe to clear it out really well. did you ever solve this problem? any advice for me? same car, no lights on the dash, no OBD codes, no leaks(noticeable), full fluid, fuses good....yet my steering is totally unassisted. Up on jacks they make a little noise, maybe ~30% of what i heard in yours.

That's a pretty nasty location for an electrical connector to live, up in the fender near the tire, exposed to water spray/salt/grime and probably too far away from the engine to completely dry out. Be sure to coat all of the internal mating electical connectors with silicone dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion problems.

Thanks for the video, I have the same problem! I inspected the cables and it's fine and I changed the fluid but still the power steering light is on and it's very hard to turn the steering wheel, and I got this code u0131, did you replace the power steering pump? Did that fix the problem?

I realized later that you have to actually start the engine to see if the power steering works. The pump does not turn on just with the key on. I tested with both the old an new pumps and they both work, although the new one is noisy. I need to check if there is enough fluid and, if so, put the old one back to see if it is quiet. Just make sure to test it by starting the engine and NOT by turning the ignition on like I did.

@@swapmastergeneral1247 yeah thanks :) I was at mechanic today, he said the pump is getting electricity so no problem with cables, but the pump itself is bad! He asked 400 USD to change or clean it!! I prefer to clean it by myself hopefully it will work! did cleaning the pump by alcohol fixed the the pump?

Hard to say what made it work. I think the wiring was the problem and I just didn't test it properly after reinstallation and the alcohol really didn't help, but hard to say since my testing process was not correct (starting the engine). I put the old pump in last night and it is not noisy like the used replacement I had, but I did have to reseat the connectors a few times as the first time I tried it after reinstallation it did not function. Is the pump working only intermittently? Is the wiring fix I did not great? Are the connectors themselves corroded not making good connection? Only time will tell if the power steering continues to work.

Your battery is weak and the rated voltage to computer is low when powering up the voltage to operate takes away from computer when battery is weak or to have loose connector possible pinched wire

CHECK THE FUSE !!! Same exact situation POWER STEERING LIGHT WITH EXPLANATION MARK !!! Checked the fuse it was just the fuse after a 1600.00 quote from the Auto Shop it was just a FUSE !!! Number 3 in the fuse BOX !!! CHECK IT !!!! NOWWWWWW!!!!!!

HELP!!! I just bought a 2006 Mazda Axela and on the way home the power steering got tight. I took it into Mazda and they couldn’t find the problem , tested the battery and said I need a new battery and that should fix it. I replaced it and didn’t have a problem until tonight on my way home from work it happened again as I was going around a round about and I nearly crashed!! Can anyone suggest any thing that I can do to fix it please???

My electric power steering pump on my Malibu indicator is showing up on the dashboard. I drove it several times and it drive good sometimes, but the steering got hard twice. Will this also apply to a Malibu?

This component could fail on any vehicle equipped with one, so yes - intermittent power steering failure on your Malibu could be caused by similar problems I had here.

my power steering keeps quitting when the wheel is turned, causing the ps light to come on and then seems to kill power to the computer as well at shutdown (although it usually keeps running), as when i turn off the car, the car is completely dead for a minute--no odometer or dash lights. When checking the voltage, it randomly dips down to 10v from its usual 13.9v. Did you happen to see if that big positive cable to the pump was rubbing on something previously?

I don't recall seeing anything apparent as to what caused the damage to the wire sheath. The car had a lot of miles and a relatively unknown history to me, so who knows what would have caused it. It does sound like you have a wiring problem to me at first blush. Good luck!
