Thanks for the recent (Jul/Aug 2018) increase in views of this video. MUCH APPRECIATED. Please let me know what you think of the stuff I build.
Completed the install of a 48V, 400 watt motor from (a place I found) (good product so far). Power is from a 20ah lithium ion battery from (another place I found). The trike is much easier to handle now. Hot laps (2:12) in the parking lot. Lots of fun. Before the motor was installed, I had to constantly shift down to get enough torque to accelerate. Much more enjoyable and faster trike now. I can sustain speed at 32kph (legal limit) in traffic. If I keep my speed down to 20-25 kph, the battery will last "all day long", about 6 hours.
Watch my other videos to get a sense of the fast speeds of this electric trike. • Electric powered trifr...

Really a very smart vehicle even if it lacks two or three little things like: a stabilizer when stationary, a full fairing, a new type of more functional handlebar or even an active rear suspension... But in the Overall it is quite well studied; in particular because it is pendulum and allows you to maintain speed in curves. We must continue its development.

Thanks for watching and commenting. As for the stabilizer for when it's stationary (or going slow), I do have a tilt lock on it (but it could use redesign). Not sure what you mean by 'active' rear suspension, it is sprung, and works quite well (although the chain angle does lift the trike up on acceleration). I originally wanted it to be completely open, to 'show off' the various bicycle parts. The plan is to make various fairing / body parts for styling. I got involved in other projects so that's on hold at the moment.

@@cptrikester2671 By active suspension I mean a system managed by electronics or hydraulics which modifies the hardness of the suspension in real time. In the automobile industry, for example, the French brand Citroën is a pioneer in this area. Otherwise, I sincerely hope that you can resume your work and earn lots and lots of money. In any case if your machine arrives on the market, I'll take it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZm4eqGmZq91iNE

Thanks for watching. Not yet. Still need to improve the Akerman and started collecting aluminum bike parts to make a lighter version. Also, bought three 80s Yamaha Maxims to make a real motorcycle version. TOO MANY projects on the go. I may need to hire someone.

@@cptrikester2671 I've just sub'ed so I don't miss any updates. I can only imagine the grief I'd get if I brought home 3 motorbikes to further my _e-bike_ project! I'd have to build a dog house to live in for a while until my missus came around to the idea :D Too many projects? Tell me about it! My back is already knackered so it limits my "getting stuff done" ability and for the last few weeks I've been laid up with a trapped nerve in my neck, shoulder & right arm and I'm going nuts not being able to crack on with stuff. It has given me time to come up with more stuff I wouldn't mind having a go at, though! :D

Wow! Is there anywhere i can find plans for this type of front steering / suspension system?
@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 6 жыл бұрын
izzzzzz6 If you're mechanically minded, there are several videos out there that show how the mechanism works. Depending on your size requirements, the pivot points (control arm lengths & heights) would need to be adjusted accordingly. Following the principles of an Ackerman (I hope I got that right) suspension would be a good starting place for geometry. Plans not available at the moment, but I hope to see your project when it's ready. Thanks for the comment.

why do you use motor on the rear wheel only ?why we cant use it on the front wheel
@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 7 жыл бұрын
The motor is mid frame and powers the rear wheel through original sprocket set for increased speed. If I power the front wheel(s), I will have steering torque control problems and potentially end up in unforgiving, large vehicle traffic.

Why not add a passenger seat behind the driver, and a cargo trunk in the back for groceries etc, and it would be useful as a daily runabout local vehicle.
@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 7 жыл бұрын
All good questions. Why not? Please be aware that this is the first time that I built one of these and it started out as a "free" project from scrap parts. See original non-powered version. There were no plans or design aspirations, other than to see if I could make one that worked. I succeeded. Since building, riding & modifying this trike, I have conceptualized a version that converts / transforms from a recumbent single seat to a standard sit-up style while moving. This would also allow for the cargo space. Parking this, to go get groceries etc, would be risky. Thieves would steel everything not bolted in place, and then again, thieves bring their own bolt cutters.
@christothegreat1
@christothegreat1 7 жыл бұрын
CP trikester Anti theft is a concern since the first vehicles. You should install body panels to prevent thieves, better aerodynamics less waste of energy on drag and all weather use.

I should, should I? Perhaps I could develop it into a $10,000 to $20,000 trike, like the solo (or others) instead of the cheap ride it is. Please post some of the vehicles that you have built, so I may learn how it's done. ;-) Thanks.

Thanks. If you understand the geometry requirements, I'm sure it will be an interesting project. As for street legal, sounds like you're planning a motor trike. Lately, I see a lot "out there". May be easier just buy one soon. By having pedal power there's no registration / insurance and as a commuter, I can go 35-45 km on a charge without human power. Not sure what you mean "work with me"?

Front wheel base is too wide, The whole point of leaning or tilting is to offset center of gravity when the wheel base is of a narrow track I.E. bike lane fit or splitting traffic! Also the wider apart the more indifference between inside turn and outside turn causing excessive scrubbing.
@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 4 жыл бұрын
Dana Thanks for watching and commenting. "Too wide" is a matter of opinion and intended application. Yes, the front width could have been made narrower, but I didn't. Anti-scrubbing can be improved by dialing in the Ackerman geometry, and yes, this does need some work. FYI, splitting lanes is a good way to get injured. Ride safe. What is your mechanical engineering background?

CP trikester I like your concept and appreciate your ingenuity. Sorry I am not criticizing it’s just that I have been thinking about this and making 3D models then building the model .I have not applied the tilting design in the proto type yet. I have been looking at other people’s ideas . Finally there is a lot of interest in this tilting idea. I feel likeI thought of it first and then it started to show up everywhere ! Splitting traffic and fitting in the bike lane for commuting to work. I have a tadpole trike , electric with bald tires I slide around the corners instead of flipping out on the pavement. It’s really fun but dangerous!

@@Dana5775 When I decided to build this, there were only a few tilting trikes of this style that I could find pics of. I had to figure out how to do it. Now, there are lots of different designs out there. The nice thing about tilting trikes like this, they are faster around a corner than a flat trike. My flat trike didn't slide, it tipped. 🤕 The geometry was/is challenging to make it work. Especially without computer design & modeling. Hope to see your project. 👍
@Dana5775
@Dana5775 4 жыл бұрын
CP trikester thanks I agree . I give you great credit for your engineering I have been thrown out onto the road too many times till I discovered once my tires lost grip I could take corners at any speed and just drift, but loosing all that speed! After some time I got new tires they were sticky with traction had forgotten about the flipping , and sure enough out I went!. One of the complications is if you corner to sharp and try to depend on the handle bars you accidentally steer even sharper adding to the problem. I notice you leaning quite far on turns as well!
@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dana5775 Thanks. Yes, I have to lean more into the corners than the front will allow. The front suspension has a hard lock on the tilt (a little too high mind you) and after that, I need too lean in more to go faster. Hoping to adjust that some time. If the geometry isn't right and it leans too far, the pivot points could go over center and then it WILL NOT tilt back up. Please keep this in mind on your project.
