Nice job on showing us the basics on how to spool the Daiwa Tanacom 1000, which I'm about to buy also. I liked the tip on wetting the line first, good idea. The only flaw I saw, was that you fed the line of a vertical, stationary spool, instead of having the spool feed the line by also rotating; there is less chance of tangling the line. For those of you who think it takes the fun out of fishing, try reeling up a 4-lb weight, plus the weight of the fish, 500', 1000' or 1500 feet down, you'll do it once, and then go back to bass fishing :-)

Heiko, The little knob on the right side of the reel is your spool tensioner. When dropping your weight, bait or jig, you NEVER have to put your thumb on the reel to prevent backlashes. Adjust the spool tensioner so that the spool allows the line to flow freely but under a little pressure to keep the reel from backlashing. Also remind yourself to back off the tensioner when reeling up so that you don't add pressure to the spool motor and avoid overheating. I have three of these Daiwas, two 1000s, one of which is 2 speed and a smaller S500J for 200 feet or less and primarily jigging. Best of Luck with the reel. Save the receipt, The reel has a lifetime guarantee and you can find the Miami repair center easily on google. i.e.(Daiwa warranty center)

Huge tip for deep droping for anyone who hasnt done it much get a rod holder directly at the stern of your boat when theres a strong current your line is going to be at an angle being pulled by the current and you will constantly have to keep letting out line with a rod at the stern you can simulate being anchored and never have to touch the rod until you get a fish. Your welcome

very nice set up i grew up in Hollywood Florida and i always had mixed emotions on electric reels mostly because of lack of knowledge this video changed my opinion as now that i’m older i’m pretty cool with using new technology and ideas to make life easier and more enjoyable that reel would certainly make running back and forth to the Bahamas much nicer i also liked the way you set it up after moving from Florida i lived in Maryland for 20 years and i kept a boat on the Chesapeake Bay guys used to make fun of me on my way of stringing rods as i always loaded things up with plenty of strong stuff including wire leader as the worst thing that could happen was a Barracuda chomping your bait and getting away with everything talk about pissing you off almost as bad as watching one come up behind your catch and biting off half of it my last trip in the Carribean it happened twice on the same boat with Bullnose Dolphin i had plans for soft shell Tacos with both times only 50 yards off the transom so i had perfect sight of the incidents at a slow troll

Have people not see wicked tuna? This is a very useful tool to have, some people they do commercial fishing for a living where time is money and how many tuna they can get with each trip they goes out, I don’t think you would enjoying reeling in a couple 600+ lbs tuna in 1 day(let alone I don’t know how many conservative day they have to be out there for 1 season). But they enjoy being on the water and have a competition with their profession

for some people fishing is about getting food and not just for fun, also most people complaining are probably people who fish for bass in ponds, something a 12yo can do all day, try going in a boat with heavy weights and pulling a big fish from the deep, half way in the "fight" most would be dead tired and fishing would no longer be "fun"

For people that don't spool their own reels often, you really shouldn't fill it that high with a regular conventional. You will retrieve it and won't ha e enough tension. The line will expand from not being under pressure and will lock up your reel from hitting the frame . Good vid.

For the people commenting on the electric reel don’t know what they are talking about. As a boat owner myself that goes offshore all the time by myself.. the electric reel is a big relief at times. I have tons of non electric Reels ready to go in my rod holders for manual fun, as well as my electric reels. Getting up early, getting all your ice, bait, goodies, fuel, launching boat, constantly making sure everything is running properly, going way out to your destination, setting up your rig to fish, pulling in huge monsters over and over is 500 plus deep water for hours. Your going to be exhausted. So later on in the day or before if you like, the electric reel gives me the same excitement to catch that fish but saves me more energy if I’m tired. All fisherman guys and girls will 100% get what I’m saying.

I agree. I felt the same way as they did until I went on a 24 hour fishing trip, with depths up to 800 feet of water. I guess they negative comments come from people that fish in lakes and ponds.

Im all for new tech but these reels should have some type of regulation on them. They should have some type of electronic limiter placed on them where they cant retrieve line any faster than the average angler can hand crank the line. Giving the fish a chance to fight, instead of winching them out of the water so fast they dont get a chance to fight for their lives. Hell write it into the reels program. Low torque with high retrieve speed when spooling line. High torque with lower retrieve speed when reeling in a fish.
