Electric Scooter of the Future? 2023 BMW CE 04 In-Depth Review

How do you get around town on a bike? Scooter, large motorcycle, electric? BMW has a new offering for urban travel, the CE-04 and after riding it for a while, these are my in-depth thoughts.

So many years ago when I had the misfortune to live and work in a city I owned a Honda Nifty 50. It ran on the sniff of an oily rag, was super quick away from the lights, was cheap to buy and maintain, with the top box it had heaps of storage, had great weather protection and when the traffic was at a stand still I could walk along the foot path to get past the hold up and be on my way. That was a true city commuter that was environmentally friendly

An environmentally friendly 49cc carbutetted 2-stroke with no catalytic converter? In terms of emissions per km, you could hardly do worse.

@@AlasdairMcLellan when you are using less than a gallon of fuel a week and the car I used previously used a tank a week (1300cc). As for the oil it was full when I bought it and I never refilled it in the 18 months I used it. And no I never ran out of oil. It did not smoke and as far as build foot print it would have been minuscule compared to an e-scooter.

The looks are great, and the dynamics of an EV are simply amazing. The elephant in the room is; electric bikes are just unusable for their "autonomy" and unbuyable for their prohibitive prices. What a shame. Have a great year! 🇵🇹🖖🏻

Depends on the “autonomy” as an urban commuter charged from home, it gives plenty of autonomy. BMW’s intended use - now, a TMax in Australia has a similar price, so it’s not the only scooter at that price. It’s about the same money as a Kia Picanto, so if you’re the only user, the price isn’t prohibitive at all.

Seeing a lot of sound being added back to e-anything. Now you can get that v8 sound for your e-mustang. I suppose I'd have to add back that v-twin bagger sound. Imagine the looks....LOL! Enjoyed the review.

Me as one of the 1st CE 04-owners, I agree to Your issues with the bench and the missing Android-Auto inclusion. And I of course agree to Your positive aspects to it. It offers a lot of fun to drive. In Germany, it even has outselled the TMax in 2022! I have sold my BMW C650 GT before.

Salut, super explicat scooter-ul in video. L-am condus pe un mic circuit la Intermot și mi-a plăcut. Am vorbit deja la BMW sa-l primesc pentru câteva zile de proba când se mai incalzeste. Sunt curio cum se compirta la drumuri ceva mai lungi. Asa o jucărie + panouri fotovoltaice pe casa și bye bye PECO.

Bulky and no distance for riding probably a good city thing and the price is also too expensive. Other than that i’d still use the combustion motor is also way less heavy and does work in more conditions.

They lost me on range and the new CE02 has the same issue. For the price the command they need a solid 80 mile range real time. I like what they’re doing but I swear they own stock in the electric companies so we can recharge more often. No sale

An electric sooter would be perfect for my needs but what i am looking for is an electric GT-400 with weather protection, comfort and space for my luggage. I have ridden BMWs electric scooters and they work great but what is the target audience for this fancy bike? For younger riders it is clearly too expensive i guess.

The target market is...me? I'm in my forties, live and work in a city, am reasonably well-off and don't like emissions or urban driving. In fact, the target market is so me that I've ordered one.

So. You get 80miles on a full charge. However, you should only charge it to 80% because charging it above that causes the battery to degrade prematurely. Then, we are told you should not let the battery go below 20%, because that also causes the battery to degrade. That means you can only actually use 60% of the battery’s capacity. 60% of 80 miles is only 48 miles, which is absolutely no use to me at all. Hopeless.

If that is the future... I'm staying in the past. Scooter and fun in the same sentence! You shouldn't drink if you're recording a video afterwards. Kakatm (💩TM) may not be the ugliest two wheeled vehicles anymore.

The rear end looks horrible, the whole bike looks odd, but the rear end is ugly - the rear wheel looks like a wheel from a cheap car from the scrapyard ! I think electric scooters and bikes are brilliant for town/city riding.....as long as someone buys it for you, or you have plenty of money 🤔

You only can say(write) that, when You haven't ridden a CE 04. Befor the CE 04 I have had a 60hp maxi-scooter, til about 50mph the CE 04 accelerates way better. Lightyears away from any boredome...

pure greed and theft from consumer is the only thing that comes to mind, that it comes so incomplete with a wooden plaque and lame windshield. In principle BMW should be avoided; not just motorcycles but their vehicles as well.
