calcium reactor effluent drips very fast, slightly slower than a pour. ph controller is set at 6.5. the chemistry would frequently become unbalanced where the alkalinity would hit as high as 10 dkh but yet calcium would only be 400 PPM. If I raised the pH on the controller the alkalinity would come down but the calcium would also come down. So we added a three head peristaltic dosing pump so I could independently alter the calcium and alkalinity. This added much-needed stability. The radion's are gen 1 but I had the pucks upgraded to gen 3 Pro. All the blues and UV are set at 100%. the whites are at 40%, red 35%, green 45%. This tank gets a tremendous amount of sunlight often times in summer for 5 plus hours. Total radion time is 10 hours with one hour ramp up sunrise sunset. We do 30 to 40% water changes once every 5 to 6 weeks.

I have a nano reef (first tank) that is still new (setup Dec 2016). While I can't say it is as nice as this, it amazes me everyday. I'm thrilled by the state of the hobby at the moment and going forward, couldn't have chosen a better time to become a reefer!

Terrific Vid, solid tank with light fish population. Love seeing sand on the bottom.

I love how he always tells them how to do their tanks. I'm pretty sure he is trying to make it as a suggestion and ideas, and I appreciate that. Such a beautiful tank.

Awesome reef tank, with spectacular corals, their colours are so solid and bright. I’ve never seen a tank on KZbin with so many large corals, just a treat to look at, must be amazing in real life. 👍🏴 Another great video Jake. 👍

Great video! Really cool to see this level of success in reefkeeping. Definitely bring more tank tours and if possible, from people using different methods just to kind of compare perspectives to the hobby. Thanks Jake!

Great video, but I feel like when you do this you should get a little more detail from them, like how much of 2 part are they dosing, how long are they running there lights. at what intensity etc...
@ReefBuildersVideo7 жыл бұрын
That's good feedback, I'll try to get Will on here to answer some of the questions, and to include a little more detail in future tank tours.

Beautiful tank. Just goes to show you can have a great tank without a whole room for filtration. That sump looked funky but it works great and that's all you can ask for.

i enjoy seeing this kind of video. its nice to see successful long term tanks and see the kind of maintenance methodology and equipment to have success. if one were to see dozens of videos like this, and see some common practices, those practices should be able to be considered as the right things to do. I love little tips like be careful not to use too much bio pellets. i also found it very interesting that he noticed loss of coloration when the phosphates were low with GFO and he let the alkalinity rise above 8 or 9. i think i might be experiencing that same problem right now and i didn't know what was causing it.

Jake you mentioned corals we keep tend to be all over the place hence making it harder. Are there any general guidelines for having a "system" that is set up for a particular type of the reef? i.e. only sticks? or only plating corals? Or does it go much deeper than that.

When you say "alkalinity reactor" are people having issues with calcium when keeping alk stable? I test alk daily and if I keep my alk stable my calcium is always spot on. That wasn't the case before I got my masterflex/cole-parmer feed pump though.

How they keep their bubble tips so beautifully cause mines are stretch out and no bubbles ever
@MrPremierfishreef7 жыл бұрын
we have BTA anemones in lots of our tanks, most of them don't keep the bubble tipped I'm not sure why these ones have always kept theirs if I was to guess it may have something to do with the intense sunlight they receive
@roguesnail57137 жыл бұрын
Lots of nice coraline in there... I'm having problems growing coraline with AF 3 part . Would it be better dosing BRS 3 part for coraline growth?
@MrPremierfishreef7 жыл бұрын
we find coralline algae grows best under blue light 14k or even Bluer and also with very fast water movement. We always see coralline algae start first where return lines shoot into a back wall. Coraline also doesn't seem to grow very well if your phosphates or nitrates are elevated
@googIereallysucks7 жыл бұрын
MrPremierfishreef ever have issues with dosing Acropower? Like cyano or an outbreak of Dino?
@MrPremierfishreef7 жыл бұрын
googIereallysucks We generally don't see dinos or Cyano using acp, we also use bacter clean m and bacter gen. we feel using bacteria helps tanks from going I to monoculture mode...i.e. "old tank syndrome"

beautiful. I have a question as you do so that the anemone does not lose the bubbles. I have 3 and the 3 lost the bubbles thanks
@staceygianoplos63814 жыл бұрын
Was he saying that he guessed that because the anemones got 3-4 hours of real sunlight per day that they remained stationary and maintained their bright colors?
@movingwater73127 жыл бұрын
given that the tank is 15 years old, has it been resealed since then? is resealing every 10 years a myth?
@mr.reeftank14567 жыл бұрын
Yes thats a myth. silicone doesn't really go bad unless its dried out(storage long term in the wrong climate) or you tweak the tank while moving it.
@allentarver62864 жыл бұрын
Nice Tank but it is unchallenged cause you have no fish
