Just more air, doesnt mean more power. You can put a turbo and push 2 bar into that engine, but without allowing more fuel from ECU = no more power, thats it. You must keep the correct AFR for the optimal power, just put more boost is worthless.
@GTALOVER910 жыл бұрын
Yep, thats true
@xHighPotencyx10 жыл бұрын
Well, you'd blow up the engine at 2 bar of boost and no fuel compensation. That said, there's no way a computer fan is even adding enough air to make a difference.
@ju1c3washere10 жыл бұрын
HighPotency Yes, you are right, with 2 bar boost you'll have a very lean AFR(air fuel ration), and gasoline engines doesnt like too lean condition, EGT will increase and engine will blow. In diesel engines things are little different, for 2 bar you can put X fuel or X+30% fuel, risks will be almost the same(excluding extrapower, internal pressure and so on). Diesel likes lean condition. But idea was, you can put any supercharger/fan/even turbo to create boost or not, power will be the same without additional fuel from ECU and maybe bigger injectors.
@alexbogatz470210 жыл бұрын
on most stock engines the air/fuel ratio is automatic its gonna go lean for a couple pops but then the O2 sensor would be saying hey your not burning enough so the fuel ratio would be adjusted accordingly consider how the throttle doesnt actually do anything with fuel, it adjust how much air goes into the engine, or rather how much air is choked with full throttle being no choke. the engine knows how much fuel to add even thought you didnt tell it theres going to be more air
@btaaj810 жыл бұрын
alex bogatz keep in min thats is only goung to work with a car running obd2 (i think its 97+) but you are correct but only to a certin exstent because if your running (for example) 1:1 ratio of fuel to air but you then increace air it then you have a 2:1 or 1: .5 but the ecu would only allow itself to change it by .3 - .4 before just quitting and throwing a code.

@soundseeker638 жыл бұрын
Surely they could have gotten more gains if they adjusted the carburetor? More air isn't going to give you any additional power without additional fuel going in too.
@RSProduxx8 жыл бұрын
+soundseeker63 thats the problem there... in another video they test "tuning air filters",which can obviously DEcrease the power, since they mess up the air/ fuel mixture... but from my experience, if done right, you can very well gain a little bit with filter tuning... (perfectly fine on 2-stroke engines on mopeds... my Honda went from 35 to 45 kph just by removing the filter... Others "faked" exhaust turbos and gained a few kph that way... good old days :D)
@DaveDablave8 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I could see how its possible in fuel injected cars. The ecu would increase (up to the limit of the injectors and pump which, granted, probably isn't much) the fuel input to balance the increased MAP and/or MAF. Cheap "chips" do this by artificially upping the map/maf signal.
@scottbarnes72688 жыл бұрын
you stole the words right out of my mouth air to fuel ratio wasn't correct
@JohnDabs4208 жыл бұрын
in an engine oxygen produces power. the fuel is only a catalyst of sorts. a perfect fuel ratio is 14.7:1. you need 14.7x the amount of fuel you need for a perfect combustion. now this doesn't mean you produce peak power with that ratio it's just the ratio for best fuel economy. typically on everday cars you dump more fuel than you need into the cylinders. so that's why you get more power by having better air filter and induction system. but that being said to maximize power you need an all around upgrade. So what if you can pump 5+ psi of air into each cylinder it doesn't matter if you can't spray enough fuel in there. you'll get small gains but the rest of your systems will bottleneck the power. effenciey is the biggest power gain

AceInvader actually a reduction in power from this kit is a good thing. Basically any change to the output of torque or power shows a variation in how that car is running. While these kits are flawed simply because they don't provide any way to change the fuel supply to a car there was also a lot of issues with this testing. Firstly a carby air box has air gaps and a crankcase hose for venting blowby gases from the engine. Secondly the carby itself would need to be changed, in history there has been very few cars with a carby after a forced induction device mainly because it is rather difficult to design, which is also why most supercharged v8's had carbys before the air pump although it does risk pinking inside the intake manifold. Thirdly the relationship between airspeed and pressure is covered by Bernoulli's effect (in fact traditional roots style superchargers don't actually compress air as much as increase its speed) so an increase to airflow is good but due to the carby design it would still be impossible to control the air file mix. At best they could have had the airbox removed and tuned the carby to have a rich mixture to attempt to get a higher power level at a certain rpm but it would have ment a horrific fuel air mix anywhere but at that rpm. They are correct for saying the kit is rubbish but not so much for the reasons they gave. As far as a entertainment perspective goes though these guys seem to be a lot better to watch than that "Australian top gear" rubbish that stereotypes Australians.

That's basically the principle of the nitrous oxide systems they use in dragracing, but with nitrous oxide gas instead of ordinary air. (Both contain oxygen.) The NOS systems also have additional fuel lines, since it's a bad idea to add just oxygen. ("Adding just oxygen" is how a cutting torch works... and they cut big ugly holes in metal.)

I would like to make 2 humble suggestions over here 1. Maybe you guys should have serviced the car like changing the gearbox oil and the changing the engine oil to a higher grade ones. 2.You guys could have change the air filters cause it could be dirty and clogged up with dirt which prevents the air flow to the engine. Maybe then it could produce the actual amount of power that the electric fan could deliver.Its just a humble opinion.

Due to the fact that real turbochargers work by compressing the air so that there is more oxygen in the piston chamber (more oxygen more boost) then would mounting an air compressor work?
@KR4FTW3RK9 жыл бұрын
+Robert Perry theoretically... maybe. But since a tank of NOS contains a lot more oxygen than a a tank of air that might be a better option.
@barney90089 жыл бұрын
I have always wondered why use nitros oxide why not use pure oxygen
@KR4FTW3RK9 жыл бұрын
NOS is simply easier to handle: It will liquify under pressure at room temperatures while oxygen needs to be cooled to nearly absolute zero in order to liquify, this is why oxygen is usually stored in its gaseous state (under high pressure) where its far less dense than liquid NOS.

The supercharger will work dueing the low rpms, and than once the car is going fast enough to not have turbo lag the supercharger will get blocked off and all the air goes to the turbo. engineering explained has a video on it.

You guys got it wrong. Now I personally innovated this, so when ricers all over the world are doing this, remember me... Ok, here we go... Take an E-go electric leaf blower, bolt it to your hood, with rubber bushings between washers between your nut and hoods underside, and between your bolt head an leaf blower, to reduce vibration and sound. Be sure to use thread lock. Use the hole saw and flex hose and adapters, just like yours. Just before the throttle body (yes throttle body, you're waisting your time with carbeurated) drill progressively larger holes, in a row, Fabricate a slide attached to a spring, for return, and a bike brake cable for pull. Run the cable through your firewall, attach it to a mounted bike brake lever, you now have a manual blow off valve. Take an electronic thermometer, remove the metal tip, affix the metal tip to the electric engine of the E-Go blower, splice the wires to much longer wires, run them through the same opening in your firewall that you ran the blow off valve cable (ac drain pipe opening comes in handy), attach them to the body of the electronic thermometer. Let the blower, with the blow off valve all the way open, run. Do this to set a baseline operating temperature. Now when you drive keep an eye on the temperature, if it gets too hot open the blow off valve, by pulling the bike brake lever, accordingly. Manually open and close (by releasing the brake lever, which works because you have a spring attached to the opposite side of the flat plastic slide covering the blow off holes) the blow off valve to keep it as near to the optimal operating temperature as possible. Last but not least bypass the on-off switch on the ego blower, run the wires through the same opening as the rest of the equipment is wired, and then splice in an on off switch, mounting the switch on the wheel, dash or middle console. Now, as you drive, the air intake for the E-Go blower will allow your throttle body to pull are in, naturally aspirated and unobstructed, but when you turn on the blower (with the blow off valve fully closed) it will compressed air in the line, generating a small amount of boost. The only mistakes you guys made were lack of blow off valve, lack of system for controlling said blow off valve, and you're using the wrong blowers. You can use one two three or four (God knows how many if you choose, but to remain cost-effective you can only use one) but they gotta be E-Go blowers. You should use only one, Otherwise it's no longer and inexpensive, being as the E-Go blower is one of the more expensive electric blowers on the market.The E-Go blower is the only one that forces enough air to make this a viable boost system, each one moving nearly triple the air at triple the rate of one of your Ryobi blowers... There ya go. E-Go plus redneck engineered power switch, thermostat and blow off valve, you got the... Wait for it!... GHETTO TURBO!!! ya heard it here first!!!

Watching this makes me laugh at people who actually believe these Ebay systems actually do something to your car's performance. On a side note, electric superchargers aren't fantasy: read up the Audi RS5 TDI Concept. It has a twin-turbo V6 diesel and also Audi strapped a electric supercharger on top of it all. However the said EV supercharger does require a separate 48 volt battery to power it exclusively on top of the car's existing 12v system. Kind of goes to show you how much power you need to be needing before actual performance gains become apparent.

Its hooked up to a carbureted engine. You can do this test a million times and it will vary like hell. They should have used a fuel injected engine. This supercharger has to work in one way or another, its mathematically impossible not to.
@dcaonoek11 жыл бұрын
It is possible for it not to due to the fact it can't flow the air required to run the engine at full throttle. It is actually lowering volumetric efficiency.
@TheDarthEmperor11 жыл бұрын
Dane Cook Lets assume the fan is not capable of generating enough air to supply the demand of the engine. At full throttle or any throttle, the vacuum created by the pistons would cause the fan to propel faster because the fan has centrifugal blades. I can not wait to order my electric super charger! I'm gonna order 4 and make a quad barrel supercharger!!!!
@dcaonoek11 жыл бұрын
"because the fan has centrifugal blades." Not sure if trolling or just stupid....... You should look up the work 'centrifugal' and then realise it does not apply to this axial flow fan.

Push all the air you can in to the intake, if u don't correct the fuel quantity you just gonna make the stoichiometric wrong. And this is true for a real turbo as well, in fact there is no reason of why an electric turbo would not work, until we don't care about the efficiency. Stop to believe everything you see, turn on the brains.

@brianm.5955 жыл бұрын
If you were able to change the fuel air mix, you would not see noticable gains still. Turbos and superchargers work by forcing more oxygen into the engine than standard air pressure. The insides of both real devices allow space for pressure to build up and the fans are beefy and usually very precisely constructed to this end. This thing is not going to force very much more than standard air pressure as anything in excess is just going go right back out.
@FarCryBaby4 жыл бұрын
