Hi Ian. Interesting idea. I suspect that a cog and chain will be better than a fan belt. But then again, what do I know. Good luck. 👏👏👍😀

I like the idea of the cog gears and bicycle chain. It shows that you are always thinking, Ian.

You could put a nut and spacer tube on the shaft to get it where you need it then tac weld the pulley to the shaft as it looks like there will only be a 1/4 thread on show.

That is too heavy, be like pushing a cement mixer around the lawn 😊👍🇮🇪 A also have a bicycle I'm keeping for parts, don't know for what yet but for a lad who does abit of welding in the shed, I'll come up with something 😂

Evening Ian, I have to admire your determination in making it into a push mower , i have every faith that you will manage it , all the best from James

Hope that you can get it fixed buddy so you can have a push mower! Great video!

Hmm it looks a bit better quality than I first thought. For the amount you're going to use it a belt should last many a season? Keep an eye out for a screw tensioner with a wheel. You see them in automotive applications and other fan assemblies. Then you could tighten the little wheel against the outside of the belt to tension a slightly oversized belt. Would also make belt installation a breeze as well. This is a good project Ian! Carry on!!

Nice video. However, I thought it was going to be about the electrification of a push mower. But it appears it’s only about taking one to pieces. When you’ve worked out how fast you need the cylinder to rotate, sourced a suitable 12 volt motor, battery and switch , then determined the size of the toothed pulleys and a suitable toothed drive belt, sourced all the other parts needs to complete the transformation, the resulting video will be worth watching.😊

@@Jestey6 the Math in that is already making my brain hurt, fortunately it’s a very small lawn I need to mow. 20’x12’. And I need the exercise. So it’s a fan belt or bicycle cogs n chain. Or back to the Hover mower.

By the way Ian, I guess you know the cylinder needs to be adjusted down to the bottom blade until they just about touch , it should be able to cut a piece of paper along the length, to cheaply sharpen it you might be able to lap it in with some grinding paste , all the best James
@Man-in-da-shed2 ай бұрын
@@jamescherriman1633 I’ve known of a technique where you glue some abrasive paper to the bottom plate so as you rotate it it sharpens it .

Ah yes Ian, that sounds like a good idea, I knew you would have a method, and of course it may not need sharpening yet
