I've got a Johnson 2HG dumper with the same engine. There are two fuel filters, the obvious one and one in the bottom of the tank. Your understanding of the cold start is correct.
@LordMuckАй бұрын
Fuel supply from tank and then filter to pump is excellent - just sticking in the pump

Repair It’s a pretty straight example to let it go to the scrap pile to make razor blades. I would like to see it repaired. I would also like to see rebuilding the injection pump instead of installing a reman. Thanks for the Videos, Kurt. Glad to see you survived you time in Pennsylvania with Matt and the crazy one legged Canadian.

My grandfather had one for work around the estate. He kept it in a meticulous condition. Draining the fuel at the end of the season and running it dry. Regular servicing and replacing wear parts. It was practically like new when he passed away. My uncle took over and ran it to the ground.... It was frustrating.

Definitely one to repair and restore! I used to watch the builders using these Dumpers build the estate behind my house in 1965 and then go an play on them when they went home of an evening! 😎

On leaving school in 1960 the Thwaites was the first thing I properly drove, as a chippies laborer I made up wooden spacer blocks for precast tunnel lining segments. A load of which had to be delivered to the production line just after 7am each morning. Hence the dumper that was kept in the shed overnight and easily started with a few swings each morning. I delivered the blocks and then would tour the site to give other plant a tow start. Later another dumper was delivered and the newly appointed driver thought he would help me out, it was great fun to watch him tow a concrete mixer around the yard and wondering why it would not bump start.

Unusual for a will it start video to end in a non-start! But that dumper is too tidy to cut up, so I go for REPAIR. I guess the decision on a refurbished pump versus the cheaper overhaul kit is again about the time spent rebuilding the pump yourself. By the time I type this you have the next video posted, so I am about to see what you decided! I want to hear that single cylinder Petter run - will remind me of time spent on the canals hearing narrow boats with old single and twin cylinder engines.😊

Nice dumper . Repair it . Easy job, parts available. Done lots of these over the years. The company I worked for had over 100 dumpers of all types in the fleet. Found a dumper for a friend recently . We had Benfords, Thwaites, Liner, Stothert & Pitt . I have a water cooled PH 2 in my 1964 Aveling Barford road roller. It had a stuck fuel rack, you can still get those rubber boots to protect the rack.

Resto on anything weather it's a dumper or a e type cost more than there worth it's either sentimental or a use that these things get done . Do it for the love and put it to work that's what I say 👍

I'd say repair M'lod, because when you spend 750 on another one, how long is that gonna take before the pump or something else goes wrong on it. With the low cost on buying it and even with the fixing cost it won't stand you for a lot and every working hour with the dumper you'll earn money back. Thanks for the video! Cheers, Mike

I have no need for a dumper but if I owned that one I'd get the rebuild kit and get it running. For £237 it's an absolute bargain to my mind for what it is. I know you're talking about the business case for flipping it, but what can you really buy for that money these days? It would be a real shame to chop it up for scrap.

Interesting vehicle. Can’t say I’ve much if any experience with these although I have used a larger version of these dumpers over the years. Having read a few comments on this, the general consensus is to repair it with about a 50/50 split roughly, between using a service kit and replacement pump. With quite a few saying to get Kimberly involved with it. That being said, I can see your point of ‘is it worth it, time and money wise’. So, my suggestion is 1). Find out a good price for one of equal size that’s a runner and in good condition rather than guessing a price. 2). Get a service kit and get Kimberly to do a service on that while you see if there’s anything else related to that specific area of the machine that needs work on it to get it started. Then 3). See if that fixes the problem in order for it to start. If it does, all well and good. If not, re-evaluate it as a possible re-condition job to be done over a period of time. You get to it when you get to it. It’s small enough so you can store it somewhere out of the way. Job done.
@LordMuckАй бұрын
Both myself and Kimberly can get it going - that's not the issue - how much time and money do we waste on it is though.
