I love the 1 layer of carbon trapping celadon in the gas kiln - the darker clay you can see under the semi-transparent glaze layer is gorgeous, each piece is unique. The 2 layers are nice too - more predictable outcome perhaps. And the Desert Sunset combo in the electric kiln is amazing - stunning! So some from each!

Both. Each has their own unique dynamics, like different genres in music.

Yeah. Like in surfing... long board or shortboard. Each treats the wave differently. And each has its own flow.

10:05 The red color is from oxidation. Likely small pockets that did not fully get into reduction.

I like yhe gas the glaze seems to be more full and iridescent metallic color on your one cup but im fond of woodfired pottery . I like eletric as well too. Both are keepers life is to short to not do all shapes anything you like to do. Thanks for sharing with us all

Gas looks more roasted and rugged. I use to paint wax on the carbon trap shino on my pots where I wanted more carbon trap and on a porcelain clay body.. We took the kiln to 11/12. For production work I really like cone 5/6. Colors are popular with our patrons. Gas kilns are more fun to fire.

I had to rewatch several times. It went by so fast. I like the reds in the gas better. They seem richer more depth of color. Wonder when you refire in electric if it changes the color of the clay back to oxidation look Maybe you’ve done the video where you compare same glaze in both kilns with side by side photos for comparison. Always inspiring

can you please show how you refire an item? You had mentioned that for a few items, I never knew you could refire an item once it's been glazed fired. TY!

Really like the electric kiln pots. Glazes are so much more glossy and colorful. I have done both wood and gas, and never do they look as well as electric. But I am sure that is just the look I like. Try and fire the gas to cone 6-8, you might like it. Thanks for the video.

I would suggest working toward getting the ware much closer in the gas kiln. Slows the firing both on the way up and down. Also a packed kiln tends to fire more evenly.

Sometimes I'm a little bit Country, other time I'm a little bit Rock & Roll. Electric (Country) is great for convenience and vivid colors, but it limits what you can do with glaze/clay combos. Gas (Rock & Roll) opens up a wide range of possibilities. I wish I had access to a gas kiln so I could get more toasty results with darker clay bodies and with copper glazes etc. in a reduction atmosphere. I think you illustrate the differences very clearly in this vid.

I’ve been searching all over for the travel mug silicone tops. Can you share your source ? I’m looking for white. I think both gas and electric have their place. Good glazes on both. We built our own propane kiln.

The cranberry, yellow salt and carbon trap céladon are very nice. But I think the Mayco glazes don't work that well in the gas firing. I prefer them in the electric. So, I like both firings but it depends on the glaze.

Did I hear you correctly? Carbon Trapping? Is this a Mayco or Amaco or something else glaze? Thank you!

I love reduction firing but given how there are now so many clay bodies and glazes that mimic reduction for anyone who wants the effect and how electric has a much lower carbon footprint, I have to lean toward electric.
@cherylbowman50369 ай бұрын
I like them both, but lean a little more towards gas😄

Your carbon trapped celadon looks like crazed copper glaze to me so it may have copper in it which will flash redder at high heat
@healingsprings119 ай бұрын
Do you use the same glazes for both kilns?

I like both... electric is kinda flat, gas seems deeper value... maybe. 😊
