Sir What is the difference between arc & spark . And Why spark is used in edm? Why arc not?

1. Spark & Arc is literally same. But spark remains for very small time & arc remains for a long time. 2. EDM is a subtractive machining. In this process metals are removed in very small particles. So if we use arc instead of spark, then this metal removal will be in a continuous way & it will be very very difficult to control the metal removal rate and the shape of workpiece as well.
