You can use almost any method on any circuit. Although that said, some methods work better on some circuits. After a while it becomes personal preference.

Hi Mr. Van Biezen, I have a question. Should the 8, -j6 and 4, j12 be in parallel? Calculating Z Thevenin, you have considered them parallel. Why did you consider them in series calculating I1 and I2?
