Just curious as to why you didn't bother checking to see if the fuse in the spur was blown? Connections were obviously tight and i didn't notice any damage on it?

Hi Roy thanks for watching and your comments. After he mentioned the sizzling and the fact he had removed the fuse. I just went straight to inspect the spur. I explained it was damaged, which is common when there are loose connections, therefore no need to test the fuse when I'd already decided to fit a new spur.

Did you test the orignal fuse?

An alternative to replacing a 25mm pattress where a 35mm pattress is required, especially in tiled walls, is to use a 9mm or 10mm spacer. You can buy them in 1 gang or 2 gang in black or white.

Am impressed by original spark, not (probably a kitchen fitter)....13A is not enough for a double socket with two appliances plugged in...I would have gone for 20A isolator and un-switched sockets...do love the MK logic+ range though, shame they're stopping production...nice one Honeywell :(

Could the undersink outlet been originally only meant for a garbage disposal unit? Hence switched from above and The current carrying capacity of the feed was not increased

Oh the joys of changing sockets and FCUs in 25mm backboxes above a kitchen worktop!! 😩
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 Жыл бұрын
If it's all wired in 2.5mm the double socket should be on a 20 amp isolation switch, not a fused spur. 13 amps isn't enough for the 2 white goods items plugged into the socket. 2 single sockets would be better.

It's a ring circuit!!
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 Жыл бұрын
@@tSt4RifYWhether it’s a ring or a radial circuit isn’t relevant. The fact is the supply to the double socket is fused down to 13 amps. The dishwasher and washing machine that are plugged into this double socket will easily exceed 13 amps which is why the fused spur failed.

If you were a real Sparky you'd realise white goods shouldn't be on a switched socket

Hello Delroy,I'd highly appreciate if you answered this. So basically, back when I lived in a rental property, the landlord showed up one day with an electrician and he worked for 9 hours(he spent 8.5 hours installing a consumer unit and half an hour installing a smoke alarm). What I wanted to ask is why it could've taken so long for him to install it, because I started to doubt his qualification😅😅. As I said I'd highly appreciate you answering because I'm curious about all things electrics. Cheers
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 Жыл бұрын
I would say that’s pretty normal. Testing of the existing circuits, changing the consumer unit itself, testing the new circuits and MCBs/RCDs/RCBOs. If he did it in a very short space of time is where you should be concerned, not because he took his time to do it properly.

How can you judge time on something you are not trained in to judge????.......The fact that you say why it could of taken him so long already assumes he DID take to long in your opinion but you are untrained to make one lol....are you aware of the things that can go wrong installing a board....even after initial testing beforehand.....an average EICR alone can be 4 hours plus.....more so if doing a higher sample rate all sparkys may vary on this answer but my initial statement is very valid

Del - you can't rely on a socket tester in an adjacent socket to test for dead. You need to use a proving device on the accessory you are working on! You will get dead with complacency like that.
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 Жыл бұрын
He wasn’t testing for dead, he was testing the socket to see if it was working and wired correctly. That’s what a socket tester is for, the clue is in the name.
@gman7692
@gman7692 Жыл бұрын
@@gadgetman36 Yes he was. He used the socket tester's beeper as an audible indication that he had switched off the correct MCB. Then, with no further testing proceeded to work on a different accessory.

Not being funny, I knew the problem after 10 seconds. Just needed a new fuse in the spur. Tell them not to use both appliances at once.

Anyone else worried about the sockets under the sink? I’m thinking of water ingress or the sockets being near the washing up liquid etc

If you are worried about your own installation you can use weatherproof sockets. Just because they are primarily for outside doesn’t mean you can’t use them inside.
