I haven’t been to Disney world in 9 years now but I can still feel the warm breeze coming in off the lagoon as I sit on the shore at the Wilderness Lodge after a long, wonderful day at the parks, taking in this beautiful pageant every night before heading off to bed. Truly one of my favorite things about all of Disney World.

I remember sitting on the balcony in the contemporary resort and hearing this starting and having no idea what was going on. For the next week of our trip I would wait outside every night for it to start and watch it in full. Just a perfect example of how much work and effort Disney puts into making every detail in their parks truly magical.

This was one of my favorite things about working at Fort Wilderness. You could hear the music from most places on the entire campground, even in the big employees-only area close to the entrance to the site. It was nice to see that something so long-standing was still going on every night. I love the music, which was either composed by Jean-Jacque Perrey or inspired by his Electrical Parade music.

We were at the campground and had no idea why the song was playing. After the 3rd day we found out. This song gives me amazing memories!

I don’t remember when I first saw this show, but I’ve been to Disney a few times over the years and I make it my goal to see this at least once, if not more. It has a special place in my heart, and I still find it incredibly exciting and magical even now that I’m older.

Awesome! Man I remember in the late 70’s and early 80’s walking back to our campsite, listening to the concluding music in the distance as the pageant sailed away for the night. Part of Handel’s music for the royal fireworks. Pure magic, our way lit by those little yellow keychain Fort Wilderness flashlights. One of the few old-timey Disney things that remains, now if we could just bottle up that Ft. Wilderness smell… man. Thanks for the video and the nostalgia!
@Bandrik2 жыл бұрын
I know that exact smell. It's mostly pine trees, some dried leaves, with a hint of campfire smoke from time to time. And once in a while, a whiff of diesel exhaust as one of the yellow, orange, or purple loop busses make their rounds. There's a few more nuances, like camping food, smores, maybe vinyl from an RV awning or a musty camping chair that was kept in storage. Otherwise... That's Walt Disney world's Fort Wilderness in a bottle. :)

@@Bandrik I think you nailed it! I love all of it. Even the bus exhaust smell. Nowadays you’d have to add In the smell of 5000 golf carts! Whatever that may be. 😅

My father used to put on meetings at the Contemporary in the 80s, and I'd love to watch this every night. Makes me sad - the original King Neptune at the end used to be Handel's Water Music.

Fina I found a video that shows the inspiration for what became the world famous Main Street electrical parade
@brianobrien79833 жыл бұрын
To be clear, the Electrical Light Parade and the Electric Water Pageant had the same music when they both opened in 1971. They were essentially the same show, only one was on water, with more water themed floats, and the other one was on dry land. But they both featured "Baroque Hoedown" as their main theme. Since that time the Electric Water Pageant has changed over the years. The Electrical Light Parade remains basically the same.
@vlcruz953 жыл бұрын
@@brianobrien7983 Minus all the floats damaged after being moved from Anaheim to Florida over the years. The circus floats broken in transit, same with blue fairy, the organ, parts of snow white too. Which is why the Main Street Electrical Parade is muuuuuuuch shorter.

I looked forward to this water pageant every year when we vacationed at Fort Wilderness. If I remember correctly, it was even visible from the Monorail track. It just doesn’t get any more “magical” than this.
@sweetridespei48163 жыл бұрын
Yeah you could catch a glimpse of it’s daytime home just before the Magic Kingdom as you crossed over the canal that runs beside MK and eventually becomes rivers of America in Frontierland. Magical memories indeed. 😀
