hi, correct me if i'm wrong, there should be body(substrate) terminal connected internally to source, with out this terminal mere application DC across drain and Source cannot make p- n junctions Forward bias or reverse Bias

@@hiZarki I paused the video to check comments when I saw current flowing from positive to negative, having been taught that electrons flow from positive to negative some 50 years ago. I don't understand how current (defined as the number of electrons per second as I recall) can be thought of as flowing in the opposite direction. This was called 'hole flow' back then. Can you explain?

Every video I watch about mosfets gets me more confused, I understand the basics but I seem to not fully understand the whole picture of a mosfet. What basics should I review before coming to understand mosfets? I think I'm more lost on the big picture of why use mosfets first and why we use each component inside the mosfet in that fashion? 🤪🤪 I told you, I'm just confused, I'm always thinking mechanical operation and not electrical

EE here; hopefully this will help. We use transistors because they act as electrical switches; MOSFETs like the one shown in this video switch a voltage supply on or off by using a small voltage at the gate to allow or restrict a larger voltage being applied to a motor, for example. Think of it this way: the water inside a pipe in your bathroom shower doesn't come out unless the spicket or handle is turned to "on" or open, right? So the force you use to open the pipe is like the small voltage being applied to the gate of the MOSFET. Now, imagine the gate is actually controlled by a small waterwheel instead of your hand & it only needs a tiny amount of water poured on it to rotate & open the pipe. So that is a more direct analogy; a tiny amount of water (voltage) being used to allow a much larger amount of water to flow. Make sense? The other type of transistor, bipolar junction transistor (BJT), works similarly but the main difference is that you are using current to control another current instead of voltage controlling another voltage. Also, the other main usage of transistors is as an amplifier, meaning it makes something bigger, larger, greater, etc. In this case, transistors are adding the larger voltage to the smaller voltage to get a much larger voltage, thus amplifying the original smaller voltage. The amount by which the input is multiplied is naturally called the "gain." Hope this was all helpful!

What not mentioned in this illustration is the triode function, and the pinch off mode due to forward biasing of drain to source voltage. Increasing the depletion region and narrowing the the N channel towards pinch off mode. To widen or enhance the N channel again increase the + gate to source voltage. 😳 Which I learnt from other youtube video tutorials.
