48" to either the top or the bottom. That way only one piece of drywall needs to be cut, Provided you have 8 foot ceilings.

Great question brother! I usually always do 48 the top for everything that is up high, besides TV Outlet.

If you measure 48-5/8" down from the top of the plates to the top of the switch box the drywall people don't have to notch their drywall.

Cut a pvc pipe to the height u want your switches to be at and label it switch pipe and the measurement. You will thank me on big projects.

What about receptacle height? I remember reading NEC max height at 5 1/2 but don’t remember a minimum although we usually go 18”.

We just did an inspection on a home we may buy and the switches were about 60 inches. This is weird an I feel unacceptable. How does a four year old put on the switch when they use the restroom at 4 am?
