The bolt with the rounded head is a breakaway bolt. The head of it snaps off when torqued leaving the rounded part. They are not intended to be reused

A few tips: 1. Use cutting/tapping fluid when tapping holes. It will be easier to do, less chance of breaking a tap, and cleaner final result. 2. Drill a small hole and use a cotter pin to prevent those handles from slipping out of place on the stand. 3. These old Porsches have a short wheelbase and are famous for snap oversteer. Getting a good weight balance will be very important to drivability/safety. Think very carefully about where you position the heavy components, especially batteries.

No way. This is huge. The owner gutting it first will probably make it much easier to work on. Oh wait, the wires are probably a big problem…
@dannelson69807 сағат бұрын
Since they just chopped up an expensive harness, I'm sure they didn't label, bag and document all the parts they removed. Nothing like finding out that little. pin, or clip you lost is now Unobtainium. Porsche tax is one thing, the rare part Porsche tax is insane at times.

Sooo excited for this build! Back in the early 2000s, I was talking a Project and Change management class, and we had a project to come up with a new product based on an existing one. I pitched an all electric Porsche 911 and the instructor told me I was crazy because no one would want that type of a car. I guess someone actually new what was what. Looking forward to this one (the others are fun as well).

Tip for the snowblower, I have a battery power as well. Connect the charger to a smart outlet and then set an Alexa routine (assuming you have alexa) to charge the batteries for 1 hr, 3 days a week (even during non winter months) This way they batteries are always charged and healthy and you dont have to worry about them draining down during the summer months.

Those are breakoff bolts. You tighten them until they shear at a designated place, so that there is a proper torque, and no one can take them out. Usually used to secure key cylinders in cars.

Ethanol could be your problem with the snowblower. It doesn't work well in small engines. Use high octaine gas with no ethanol. You may have to drain the carb as well.

As you know, the complete kit to convert it is available from the Britain company Electric Classic Cars in Wales.

Conversion kit is 75k plus shipping and only certified shops can do the install(100+ hours). You get the base LDU because their batteries can't handle the power draw of the sport or ludicrous LDU.

They cut the wiring!!! That is going to be painful. I spend 20 times the amount time repairing and replacing the main harnesses than I do on the actual conversion. If they can find a new harness it will cost more than the batteries. Hopefully they still have the sections they cut out, so you patch them back together well enough the use it as a pattern to create a new harness.
@EV911WIIC8 сағат бұрын
Owner of the car here. The original harness is still available and all of the wiring diagrams have been acquired prior to cutting the wires. Car is very analog: no power windows, no power seats. 90% of the wiring goes to the engine and trying to separate the remaining 10% is a pain. OEM wiring harness for the specific areas like headlights and windshield wipers are available for $100, full interior harness is $400, back is another $100. Keeping a 50 year old harness and chasing the gremlins is silly when brand new parts are widely available and well documented.

Oh, oh no... I'm all for EVs but this seems like such a huge waste of a genuine classic. I really hope there won't be any irreversible mods to the shell in case the owner (or next owner) comes to their senses. All that said, it looks like it's happening anyway - so make sure you do a good job of it, we know you have it in you!

@muneeb-khan10 сағат бұрын
Apparently engine was shot so nothing lost with the EV conversion. Plus it’s in terrible condition at least they are restoring it. There is something to be said about using an older hood design but I’ll hold judgement till I see it.
@BenHaskell10 сағат бұрын
@@muneeb-khan it is in terrible condition, I'll give you that one. I'm not sure the engine was necessarily shot, it just wasn't currently running - big difference! Like you I'll try and reserve judgement, but given that so much of the character of these cars is defined by the presence of the air cooled flat 6 I'm not sure it's fair to say nothing is lost by the EV conversion
@EV911WIIC8 сағат бұрын
Owner of the car here. A bit of the backstory here for the context. Car sat on the warehouse on the blocks for over 10 years, no wheels, no top. Car is 100% rust free but whoever bought it put it on the replica fuchs and sprayed goo sealant all over the bottom of the engine and transmission to stop the oil leaks. Engine needs a complete rebuild which is not cheap. Car sat on the market for months if not years because nobody wanted to touch this big of a project. So yeah lets talk about taking the soul out the classic car that sat soulless for years and nobody wanted to give it the second chance.
