Just throwing this out there, but the Z32 300ZX shares its front geometry with an R32 Skyline GTR. If you installed front hubs from a GTR into the Z32, you would have the ability to install front drive axles without redesigning or changing the entire front suspension. Mount the tesla drive unit, get custom axles made. Much simpler solution.

@@electricsupercar You got it. It's way beyond this at this point, but for other folks watching, the 2+0 seater 300ZX has the fuel tank in front of the rear subframe instead of behind, so the floor probably wouldn't need to be cut at all.

About those cutouts in the rear: Maybe cut a little bit more generously, so that you can have simple geometric shapes for the replacment floor pan sheets you will be fabricating. Ideally do it symetrically, so you can use the same part left and right. That will streamline your rpcess, make it more economical and if you ever get to do another 300ZX you will have simple templates to re-use!

Agreed, also a 2 post lift (not a storage 4 post) and a oscillating multi tool with metal blades can go a long way into making you more efficient! I know when i don't have the right tools, i feel less confident and motivated. Please share more how the scans work, its a game changer.

I was already using the LASFIT bulbs in my cars. Saves from having to splice-in a resistor. My cars are not CANBUS, but are resistance sensitive and so far these work flawlessly.

Excellent progress. I love the high tech tools. 3D scanning, 3D printing, CAD design, SendCutSend, etc. BTW, I use SCS and love them. I’ve started exploring all the different materials they provide. I just received some clear Acrylic parts they cut for me. Very cool! Keep up the great work.

I see you have the harbor freight bleeding down cherry picker issue. There are aftermarket rams of higher quality you can swap that will keep you from slowly dropping an engine on you. Highly recommended.

I know others have suggested simplicity for the patch but forming a patch matching the motors geometry and welding that in would look factory and be so much more satisfying even though it’d probably be a bit more difficult…. I’m not the one working on the project though. Honestly with your past attention to detail, ingenuity and meticulous work I wouldn’t be surprised if you found a way that’s relatively easy even though that metal seems to be a pretty thick gauge.

Methinks you should have used some dry ice to remove all that sound insulation under the rear seat prior to chopping the metal up. The solid floor could hold the dry ice as a basin while chipping off the insulation.

To be honest the Nissan wasn't really my case, but with the Model 3 Performance setup I'll have to cath up. Very interesting. That's the setup I'm flirting with. Nice power and AWD. Right now I'm thinking maybe a 1960s Ford Econoline Club Van on a 1980s Mercedes E-Class W123 wagon. Would it be possible to get the 3D-models of the front and rear motor from you? I'd love some reliable data to think aboutif and how it would fit in my vehicle of choice. I need to kjnow that before starting, otherwise it'd give me far too much anxiety.

Dual motor is the way to go. People wrongly assume that you are using twice the power. It takes the same amount of wattage to move x amount of weight. The motors are sharing the load. You get twice the torque. You effectively one larger motor with half the resistance. The only way it eats more power is because you have 2 3 phase inverters running instead of one. Unless you are going crazy slow or are stuck in traffic 2 motors is going to be more efficient. Google copper losses for non-believers. Adding motors and raising voltages are 2 things that will greatly improve performance. People coming from gas engines think there I juthung to learn and you just throw motors in and give it power. There a whole world of tuning and modifications you can do. If you understand how everything works together. Being a little bit of a mad scientist helps so you gotta learn some stuff if you want to do things right. The controllers on these things can be a little overwhelming. If you're lucky you get directions in English. The same concepts apply no matter what brand you get or what they have decided to call a feature. Learn the concepts and what works and you can apply it to every build. Everything I build has at least 2 motors. Be ready for the torque.

2 motors are measurably less efficient overall than one motor, look at range estimates of single motor EVs vs their dual or tri-motor versions. You're dealing with the losses of 2 inverters, 2 gearboxes so double the powertrain losses, and the added weight of an additional motor, gearbox, inverter, and cabling. It's never as simple as "two motors always better." There are pros and cons to everything. In this case you lose efficiency and range, and increase cost and weight. You gain torque and traction.

To answer your question about why Nissan couldn’t put a access panel for the rear shocks, it’s because Nissan sucks. They made horrible cars. And that’s why they’re going bankrupt if they don’t get bought by Honda. Every Nissan I’ve ever had has been an enormous pile of garbage. Good luck.
