Electro Command for Dummies

I try to explain how to use New Hollands Electro Command transmission. This is the same transmission that a lot of the older tractors had before it was called Electro Command.

We had this in our T6030 and boy did it give us fits. When shifting from low range to high range it would grind very bad. Then once the tranny got hot it would kick you out of high range even if you were in it. If you were in low range and wanted to go into high range it would not go into high even though the shifter was all the way forward, The only way we could use high range is if it was cold. The Technicians thought it was a bad syncro but idk what ever happened to it once we traded it. We traded it for a T6070 and its ok, defiantly way more finicky than the full power shift in our 3 Genesis absolutely love our Genesis pretty much as bulletproof as you can get.

DLH Farms What has more power your T6030 or your t5? I think we just got a bad T 6030 besides the transmission problem I love everything else about the tractor and the T 6070 we got to replace it has been pretty good does not have the super steer on it which I miss from our 6030

The 6030 has more power for sure , well it's really more torque that it has with it's 6 cylinder engine.

Hey DLH Farms, appreciate the informative videos - keep them up. Question for you, does your T5.120 reach maximum engine RPM in 16th gear? Or does the engine limit out at 25 mph, at approximately 2000 RPMs? We have a T5.115 (older version of the T5.120), that has done this since new, dealer says this is normal.

+Todd Lyon. Mine is supposed to limit the engine at 1950rpms in 16th they call it an economy road gear, but for some reason mine doesn't, it will review to 2200 in 16 and goes about 28mph. I'm glad it don't work like it's supposed to. Haha!

Sure do appreciate all the time and hard work you put into these videos as well as your day job! Recently I have been contemplating upgrading from a Mahindra 4540 to a 100 horse tractor. I run a fencing business where I use the 4540 to drive posts with a 3 pt. driver. I also have a small haying operation and been looking to get a larger tractor to pull a trailer as well as more loader lift capacity. Curious to see how you are liking your T5 series and if you would recommend one. Needs to be very reliable more than anything. Dealer is pushing a T5.115 they have in stock, I wouldn't know if the 100-120's all have the same transmissions and internal components that? Is your NH service as you expected? Keep the videos coming! Always a great watch in the evenings!

The T5.110 and the T5.120 all have the same engine and transmission. My dealer service has been good, but the tractor hasn't been very reliable. Had a engine bearing fail, transmission is noisy and clunky. They took the rear end apart to re-shim the ring and pion gears to try and reduce the clunking noise. It had way too much free play, it did help some but still a lot of clunky play in the transmission somewhere. I ended up buying an extended warranty just in case.

Had the same problem as the guy below, had a T5060, if I needed to change speeds I had to completely stop and change ranges, hence it got traded for the T5. Also did you know on the Electro Command you can shift between 4 and 5 or 12 and 13 using the clutch pedal instead of the range button? Try it, you will like it on the road both up and down between 12 and 13. Really smooths out the shift!!!

Yes I know you can use the clutch, but my shifts are smooth with the button, I keep my transmission finely tuned.

Can I make my 16x16 Electro Command to a 17x16 Electro Command and what are all the parts in the pto section to replace to do this? I travel from farm to farm on open road so I would benefit from lower rpms. I know the transmissions are the same it is just a 17th gear involved in the pto section.

Thanks for the schooling. I still haven't bought a tractor, but I am absolutely closer lol. I did not understand the electro command and I didn't realize it only had 16 fwd gears. I have owned and ran a T5070 that I have run since 2013 and it only has 12 gears and that is not enough for cutting and/or round baling hay imho. I am sick of clutching and shifting gears. It seems to be either too fast or to slow all the time and missing the right ground speed for what job I am doing. Do you have enough gears in the right range in the 4 to 6mph range with that transmission?? Thanks again for the lesson and your input.

+Mac Dearman. Yeah 16 gears works good for about anything. One thing I have learned about all new Holland's 12 speeds is 1st gear in high range is almost exactly in between 3rd and 4th gear in medium range so if your working in med range and 3rd is too slow and 4th is too fast go to high first. I've used 12 speeds for years on my TN95 and 6640 only time I have problems finding the right gear is when square bailing. If you really want a lot of gears get the dual command it has 24 gears but you still have to shift manually but there is a clutch button on the gear stick so you don't have to push the clutch.

+Mac Dearman . If you want to get rid of gears all together get a T6 with auto command then you can go any speed you want between 0 and 25mph and never shift any gears

I just left my local dealer (who is also a close friend) a few minutes ago and we"ball parked" the T6 line of tractors. I think I will just have to make do with the T5 series lol. Those 6 series puppies have more pedigree than me and this herd of cows can afford. Thanks again for all your videos. Their awesome. NH ought to send you a check lol

I would stay with the 120 horse power one because they weigh quite a bit for a small tractor imo. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask. You just hold the range button down while shifting to the next range there is a range button on the front of the stick and one right at the base of the screen that shows what gear you are in. If your shifting up D range from 12th hold the range button then simply push up on the upshift button, if shifting down from D range from 13th to 12th hold the range button then push the down shift button. You can use the buttons on the stick or the ones on the console to your right

good video....can you drive that tractor without having to use gthe clutch pedal at all? would it suit someone in a wheelchair that cant use their legs to use yhe clutch?

Yes you could drive it without the clutch, but you have to press the clutch to start it and the brakes are foot activated.

@@DLHFarms you have to press the clutch in to allow the tractor to start?? modifing the brakes wouldnt be a problem its the transmission end of it that can be trickey to get sorted..aslong as the clutch was easy to get around the rest would be easy enough..thanks for replying to me.. great video too!!!

@@mandylad Yes all NH tractors require the clutch to be pressed to start the engine. If you go with JD it will start without pressing the clutch. You may want to look at John Deere's IVT transmission.

@@DLHFarms a simple wiring mod could sort that issue out to allow the tractor to start without depressing the clutch pedal. I've done it on my T6 140 as it has other benefits also, like not having to use the range button to select between ranges.

Mine stopped shifting to 14, 15 and 16th gear it's a 2018 T6.180

@@DLHFarms It's an Electro Command transmission just like the one your in with only 40 hrs and the speedometer and PTO RPM gauge quit working also stopped shifting to 14, 15 and 16th gear. Any clues what is causing this problem? Because I thought only the older ones had this problem, so still must be a problem with 2018 and newer with the Electro Command transmission.
