Is the DI output unprocessed or does it run through the EQ + comp loop? My complaint about the MXR M81 is the DI output is completely clean :/

There is a BYPASS pushbutton on the side of the pedal for this exact purpose. Push in and you get the effected signal on the XLR. Leave out and you get the dry signal.

The Battalion can certainly be use with or without a cab sim. We've used it for bass tracks plenty on its own but cab sims are always cool for finding different sounds.

Can you send the basses pre distorted sound (natural) into 1 interface Chanel dry and set the unit distorted into a second interface Chanel then blend together into your DAW? Ps Awesome playing

Thanks! You can do that by using the dry out and turning blend on the distortion to max, but the dry signal will be exactly what is inputted to the pedal, with no EQ or compression.

It is a noise gate GATE Knob - Sets the threshold for the noise gate. Turn this up to cut signal when no/little bass signal is coming through.

Comes on with EQ. Bypass bypasses the full pedal. The EQ is very flat with everything set at 50% if you don’t want the EQ to affect anything.

hello everyone! I need help with the following. I'm looking at which one to buy, nano battalion or batallion di. I get the impression that the nano has a more overdrive sound. while the battalion di has a more distortion sound. thank you!

The distortion circuit itself in the Nano and full sized Battalion are almost identical. I would call both of them an overdrive that can veer into distortion at higher drive settings. I would say that just the way the pedals are setup, the Nano works more as a drive pedal while the full sized is more of an EQ/DI with a switch-on-able drive section, as the Nano only has the one bypass footswitch and there’s no way to toggle just the drive on and off.

Could you clear up some confusion for me? The descriptions appear to imply that the DI output is by pass only. Is this true?

There is a button on the side of the unit labeled “Bypass.” When it’s pushed in the DI outputs sound based on the bypass state of the pedal (so it outputs the effect when active, outputs the dry signal when bypassed, same as the normal ¼” output). When that “Bypass” button on the side is left out, the DI always outputs the clean signal regardless of whether the effect is on or not.

"The Left LED will illuminate when the distortion is active. If active, the LED will stay lit even when the entire pedal is bypassed, indicating distortion will be active upon activating the pedal." So you couldn't use the distortion side of the pedal THEN add in the EQ afterwards by pressing the switch on the right side?

You cannot only use the distortion circuit per say, but if you’re in Dry-EQ mode and have BLEND at maximum, then the EQ has no effect. Also, when the EQ is set to flat it is very transparent and doesn’t really affect the sound at all.

Although not 100% comparable in features to the Battalion, the EHX Tortion is a guitar preamp with a footswitchable boost channel, 4 different preamp voicings and an XLR direct output.

The Nano is missing features the big one has such as the compressor, gate, pad, a footswitch for the distortion, and XLR out (though you can plug a TRS into the Nano’s output for a balanced out). The big one also has a four band EQ, with all being knobs, while the Nano has bass & treble knobs and a three-way mids switch (boost/off/cut). You can plug headphones into the output of the big one, that doesn’t work well on the Nano. The Nano I think has a slightly better distortion tone, but they’re very close. Overall the Nano is designed to be a bit more of an overdrive / distortion pedal you click on and off whereas the big one is more designed to be a DI that also has switchable distortion.
