There is no versus. At well under $100 for each...you need both. Just picked up a used Big Muff Pi yesterday at my local guitar shop, great pedal. Now for the RAT!

Oooh man, same. I get so tired of people taking these gnarly sounding pedals and bust out the dad rock to demo them. This is definitely a relief from that.
@JTroskaTV3 жыл бұрын
If I could only have one, the Rat is more versatile and plays well with more amps. The Big Muff is appropriate in fewer occasions, and can be fussy about which amps it wants to play with. But when the situation is right, a Big Muff is so much fun.

Great demo. I would love to see a single coil version of this demo. I think the Rat sounds totally different (and a bit better) through single coils and I’d be curious to see how it compares to a big muff with single coils.

@geoffreyvacher7554 жыл бұрын
I think it also depends if you play gigs or not. The big muff is awesome at home or for recording but sometimes sound lost in the mix in band situation especially if there are two guitarists. The rats has a lot more mid, so it will be more present. My advice unlike you are the only guitarist in your band, big muff = home, recording Proco rat = live
@thebeingbecoming35963 жыл бұрын
@@geoffreyvacher755 I can see what you mean but it's nothing some EQ-ing and knob twiddling won't fix. I used to play guitar in a band where the other guitar player used a Big Muff. His tone was very fat and hella present, but it did lack the definition to cut through during solos. He solved the problem by using a clean boost. But the Rat actually stacks really well with the Muff, so if you did have both pedals there would be no sense in leaving one in the studio and the other in the gig bag. Put the Rat in front of the Muff and prepare for fuzz heaven lol

So i think you use a looper. So the sound of the big muff didn't clean up if you turn the sustain down. So it sounds diferent if you direcly plug in the guitar. I like my big muff pi more then the RAT Pedal. But good Video

if i had the exact right amp with the exact settings on the amp and pedal, big muff, but the rats just easier, the muff is so picky about what you use, the rat is so much better if you want that type of distortion

Both are so awesome. Personally I enjoy the big muff more just bc it’s what they used in the old days so turning that on to play your guitar just sounds so vintage but it’s all personal preference, I only listen to mostly late 80’s early 90’s music. I’m sure the rat would be great for recording if you want a new and clean modern sound on the recordings. Both are needed tho lolll

What on earth are you talking about? They both were on sale in the 70s... I own a RAT from the 80s, and I'd take it over any muff. The RAT is a retro dirt sound (both have newer versions buy they aren't all that far from the originals).

2 very different pedal the RAT uses an op-amp where as the muff uses transistors. RAT is more versatile just like the Swollen Pickle. The muff takes up so much real estate & has a small board inside no reason to have such a huge case.

I have both of these, not a fan of either boosting the other. It’s too thick, it’s like a wall of fuzz, in an unpleasant way. However, I will boost a big muff or a rat with a clean boost or tubescreamer-type pedal into it though. That’s a great sound.
