The Fuzz War is based on the Colorsound Supa Tone Bender, which is basically a Ram's Head Big Muff on steroids. Its Tone and Volume controls are very powerful, with the former capable of restoring mids that Muffs tend to scoop. has a more jagged texture overall. It has a raspy, buzzsaw quality that almost recalls an octave fuzz when the gain is increased. The Green Russian reissue is prized for its smoothness and massive bottom end. It has the typical scooped sound of a Big Muff and has a comparatively restrained, even character in its distortion.

Yea I love how my fuzz war can fill in the mid range that a lot of muff style fuzzes scoop out, it's a very versatile pedal for sure.

Fuzz war is elemental and versatile. Big Muff Pi has the familiar sound, but sounds less great with tone up. Fuzz War also a better volume boost, w/ more pure overtones. But, yeah, these are close twins. God bless us.

Big muff is thicker and creamier but can be a pain live as it’s a bit muddy without something in front of it. Fuzz war is not as thick but very clear and dynamic. Really like the Fuzz War

I have the FUZZ WAR and I really love it but i´m still looking to find the right EQ for my stoner rock band, Have you tried the Fuzz with any other gain pedal and mix both sounds together? I want to use the FUZZ all the time but I want to add a Gain for the Solo parts and that´s where im getting lost.

Tubescreamer in front of the fuzz works like a charm👌 I use a ts9 in front of my fuzz war and. Gain at 0 on the ts9.

Get a tumnus deluxe. Best klone ever made. Way better than a tubescreamer. Tubescreamers take over your tone too much. The EQ is extremely useable on the tumnus and the drive sounds amazing from 0-10

@@omarmunozcastorena4466 no doubt! I love tubescreamers they are a great live tool for a heavy mix but I try to avoid using them. Tumnus does the same thing but it gives you more of everything. Hard to explain. Definitely try it

sick video. man I really want a Fuzz War because so many of my favorite artists use them but I really can’t afford it. I was looking for something cheaper just to get into fuzz and it led me to the Behringer SF300 which is only $25 bucks but looks kinda odd. The green russian was the next I found but it’s still pretty expensive but sounds great. Any suggestions for cheaper fuzz pedals? thanks!

The Behringer pedal is a clone of the boss hyper fuzz which sells on the used market for above 200 dollars...this version of the green Russian big muff is a clone of ehx’s earlier and very expensive (around 500/600 dollars) green big muff....really Electro-Harmonix is one of the best for different types of fuzz’ at an affordable price....and yes they are affordable when you start to see the prices of boutique builders..tc electronics also has two fuzz’ that can be found at a low price (the honey pot and the rusty fuzz ) some of the cheaper Chinese brands on wish or amazon tend to be more of rebranding of distortion pedals. I wouldn’t really recommend them because when you are looking for the right fuzz sound you will go through a lot of them and the ones you don’t like will be sold on reverb.com and you usually won’t get the price you bought it for.

I own a fuzz war, and one thing I don’t see people talking about it’s how much it improves if you use a tube amp vs using a solid state. The volume knob on the top is SUPER sensitive, and in my case I only set it at a quarter of the way to be in line with the rest of my pedals. When playing a tube amp, it can be set higher (adjusting the volume of the amp) to push the front of the amp and add gain to the sound. That’s what makes the fuzz war sound, not just the pedal but the added gain from the amp. In my case, I use a Roland JC-40 and I find that it just doesn’t sound distorted enough on it’s own. It just sounds very harsh and squeaky unless you dime the tone knob by a lot.
