Definitely want to see more pond videos. After all the forage you put in there I can't believe 1 gill and no big bass! I figured at least one 4 and a couple of 3's. ...and REALLY surprised at how skinny the big catfish was. That explained a lot to me about the pond I fish in. Pretty much the same condition only 6.5 acres. Two years ago I could catch 30 crappie and bluegill in a day, with 3 or 4 1/2 - 3/4 lb. bass thrown in the mix. Now a good day is 6 fish. a couple gill, a couple crappie, and maybe a bass or two. Same size as before.. 1/2 - 3/4 lb. I watch all of Bama Basses 5 acre pond videos. He's really doing it right!!! If you haven't seen his series, please watch it from beginning to end! It'll help, I promise. Blessings LOJO and thanks for sharing.

bamas pond is way too shallow though, that thing gonna be full of plants within 2 years, give it another couple of years and it will get more shallow to the point where fish kills happen during summer/winter.. like 3/4 of his pond is less then 3 foot deep. it shouldve been 3/4 of the pond over 6 foot deep. I get it wouldve cost a lot more but in the end he will prob have to make the investment.. and total cost will be much more then if he had just done it right the first time.
@chipseiler1766
@chipseiler1766 Жыл бұрын
@@larsvegas1505 I thought the same thing while he was building it. He's gonna have to rely way to much on chemical treatments which may cost him if he wants to eat any fish from it, although he seems to just want to grow trophy sized bass.

when ponds fall off like that whats the fix? more bait fish orrr i had a pond a couple years ago could rip em all day long now ive gotten skunked the last couple times. there was also an otter in there 2 years ago but it didn’t change really until this year.
@chipseiler1766

@@nate.hanlon otter will do it in a small pond for sure. We also a a Great Blue Heron. Last week I caught a 1 lb. bass. (I've only caught three or four 1 lb. bass in the past three years. Fish over 1 lb. are rare!) Two days latter, the Blue Heron ate it! At least he was trying. He stabbed it and was trying to eat it. The pond used to have a lot of wildlife (birds / ducks / geese). The birds no longer have enough food to hang around and no longer live there. The key in my pond would be two fountains for aeration, and stocking threadfin shad. Another interesting note is that last summer there was a massive fish kill. Lack of oxygen in late July. There are three main sections of the pond that are fishable where the bluegill spawn. This year, there were NO bluegill spawning in the section furthest away from the deep water. There were some spawning in the other two areas, but not nearly as many as usual. Then... heres the really interesting part. I've caught a few Red Ear sunfish (Shell Crackers) over the past three years. That same bed has been taken over by a hundred or more Red Ears! I also found another not so easily fished hole with 50 plus Red Ear beds. I've caught more Red Ears this year in one trip, and I've done this at least 5 times, than in the past three years combined.

@@chipseiler1766 i think my pond i used to fish is screwed it’d cost a lot. for some reason this years there’s A LOT of grass so i’d have to get that under control and everything so im bout to just say forget it and plus if i stock it it’d be 5 years before it’d be worth fishing lol

idk bout bass specifically but trout for instance get up to 60% of their proteins from terrestrial proteins sources, not bait fish, but bugs and small mammals even. For this reason, as well as a hand full of other good ones ( geese and erosion management) ppl are recommending leaving like a 5 foot veg buffer preferably of native plants. Less vegetation buffer=less fish food= smaller stressed fish

A bigger fish or down deeper will be more resistant to the charge, so a big fish down deep will have even less reaction to the charge. I'd say you've got a few more bigger fish down under the deep structure. Stocking more bait is a definite "go". If you have a thermal scope for your AR, wait up a few nights for that otter.

I was out of Barnegat inlet in NJ on my friend's boat back in the 1980's he had an old 23' Thunderbird (the exact boat used in the old TV show "Flipper") there were was about 4 water spouts (looks like a skinny tornado) that you could see a few miles away. The antenna on the radio started singing, we couldn't figure out what the buzzing was at first, we thought it was static on the radio, then when we shut the radio off the buzzing didn't stop. My friend unplugged the antenna from the radio, but the buzzing got louder, and we figured out that the noise was coming from the antenna. I lifted my arm up and the hair on my arm was standing up. We headed back towards the inlet, the weather cleared up later that day, forgot to mention we were catching a bunch of stripped bass as the buzzing was happening, and we didn't really want to sto fishing. I'll never forget that day.....FishOn. .....jimi

Maybe this isn't what people are talking about: but I love the glimpse into how everything you guys are chowing down on in these videos is 100% sourced on your property, and the flavours sound amazing. I wish I could taste Darryl's food. All those flavours just look great. I'm surprised the pond was not better stocked. It may be that the existing bass have just eaten their way through everything smaller and reduced the overall bait population. Right now they could be surviving off tadpoles, froglets and even insect larvae and stuff. I can't imagine that will pay off in the long run. That otter has to be relocated. Godspeed in rejuvenating the pond and please keep posting! Love seeing how it's all going! :D
