Let me remind, A redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction is a chemical process where one substance loses electrons (oxidation) and another gains electrons (reduction). It's like a transfer of electric charges, where one becomes more positive and the other more negative. Thank you ma'am 😊😊😊

English translation of the video ! (Part 1) Note - some parts of the video are paraphrased as ma'am was repeating some words or sentences for emphasis before abruptly cutting off to another sentence or was repeating stuff. Anything in brackets is me telling you what happened in short rather than it being word to word. Introduction part of electrochemistry. 0:54 -> When you focus on the name 'electrochemistry', in it, 'electro' must have come from 'electricity' and chemistry which basically stands for 'chemical reactions'. This means we're going to be studying the relation between electricity and chemical reactions in electrochemistry. Now we can say, "electrochemistry is the study of electricity and how it relates to chemical reactions." All in all, we're going to be studying two concepts in this whole chapter. Firstly, we're going to be learning about how we can generate electricity from a chemical reaction. Secondly, we're going to be learning about how we can use electricity to do a chemical reaction. Which means we can be talking about chemical energy to electrical energy or vice versa. Now the base of these things happening, that is chemical to electrical and electrical to chemical, will be redox reactions. We'll be seeing that the reactions happening within them, are what kind of reactions ? Redox reactions. 2:17 -> (Ma'am telling people who don't know what redox reactions are to go watch the 11th class chemistry video on the topic.) 2:28 -> (Ma'am continues with the chapter) In electrochemistry, we'll now be talking about generating electricity from a chemical reaction. Now here, in this type of situation, what reaction will we be taking about ? Spontaneous reactions. In the other situation, we'll use electricity to conduct a chemical reaction so during this we'll be talking about non-spontaneous reactions. Understood ? No ? (Does the thumb hand gesture) We'll understand them both properly. 3:06 -> Now kids, when we talk about spontaneous reactions, (sudden cut off to an explanation) Spontaneous, self motivated ! Someone who is motivated by themselves, this type of reaction, which means "Capable of proceeding in a given direction with no external energy being needed." (Repeats the same thing in Hindi and then compares the reaction to a self motivated studious kid. Further elaborates, a kid like that would require no external energy like scoldings, beatings, fear of exam, greed, etc to study.) Now where do we study spontaneous reactions ? (Reminds us of the two concepts again.) When we generate electricity from chemical reactions. Now here the chemical reactions happen on their own, no force. Here we talk about spontaneous reactions, reactions which occur on their own. During the reaction, the energy we get is used to generate electricity. 4:22 -> (Starts with the self motivated example.) Now not every kid is self motivated, there are some devil kids who want absolutely nothing to do with studying. These kids are mentally scarred (exaggerated by me just cuz, sorry !) with thoughts of failing class and no promotion, given greed and other times scolding, beating etc etc. These all behave like an external push or an external energy. The kid sadly starts studying. (...I start doing stuff like translating 2+ hour long videos instead I guess, lol) Just like this, non-spontaneous reactions don't happen on their own but to make them happen in a particular direction we provide an external energy. Now we'll talk about non-spontaneous reactions where things will be using electricity to make a chemical reaction occur. Since they don't occur on their own, we give them an external push and there we'll be taking about non-spontaneous reactions. 5:48 -> (Gives an example from day to day life.) The example - If we keep water on the top of a mountain then the water will start flowing downwards or down the hill on its own but if we were to keep the water at the base of the mountain will it go 'toi toi toi toi' up the mountain on its own ? No. It can go up with the help of a motor. In fact, in our houses the water reaches the eighth or ninth floor using a motor. Here we have provided an external energy due to which the process is happening. This is non-spontaneous. (Repeats the two concepts again.) 6:58 or 6:59 -> Is it important to study electrochemistry ? Absolutely YES ! One small thing is a battery. Now if we were to look around without the battery a lot of things would not work like say a watch, a mobile phone, a calculator, a laptop, a camera, an electric car or even toys. (Tells us that 90% of her daughter's toys consist of batteries) It is not that only a battery is the use of electrochemistry but the battery is a very important application. There are many more applications as well like electroplating. 7:45 -> Now what is electroplating ? Have you ever noticed in your house, gold plated jewelry. Jewelry which are not made of gold but appearance wise look like it. This because they have been layered or plated with gold. There are some utensils that look like they are made of silver but are actually plated with it. You must have noticed many times, chrome plated handles, the handles contain a layer of chrome. What are all these electroplating. Meaning, on one metal we deposit a layering of another metal and this is also a concept from electrochemistry. 8:25 - 8:35 -> (Thinks now that we know its uses we'll be more interested in the chapter.) 8:36 -> Now in electrochemistry, we talk about two types of cells. Which two cells ? 1. Electrochemical cells 2. Electrolytic cells What are these two cells ? (Repeats the two concepts again.) Electrochemical cells convert chemical energy to electrical energy. Also called Galvanic or voltaic cell named after the scientists, Volta(Alessandro Volta) and Galvani(Luigi Galvani). The elctrolytic cell does the exact opposite, it converts electrical energy to chemical energy. 9:21 -> (Tells us to keep our basics clear.) Elctrochemistry's basics lie in redox reactions. 9:38 - 9: 45 -> (Reminder to watch 11th class video if someone doesn't know redox.) (Update - currently on hiatus.)

Don't post such comments bro ....it may be only your view so you should keep it limited to yourself.....ma'am made this chapter entirely clear....I also studied it for 1st time and things are very much clear to me ....You should follow ncert with this video....ma'am explained every single line of ncert even the examples written between theory ..... According to me for those who haven't started electrochemistry yet they should go through this lecture....it's truly appreciable ❤️💁🏻♂️

Im really sorry if it was offending.You may get things properly maybe because your 11th base was strong or you are good in studies.As for people like me who have hard time studying chemistry is really difficult to get.We dont want to watch all those class 11 videos. And we want videos which is only based on exam and has all the explanation no matter how long it is .

Hi At 57:37 for the explanation of measurement of electrode potential of Zn using SHE Since this is a voltaic cell, how is it possible to measure a negative E cell? For a negative E cell, delta G will be positive, which hence shows that the reaction was non-spontaneous. However voltaic cells have spontaneous reactions I believe that the anode and cathode for this example must be swapped

Plz anyone answer.... 1:37:30 why the eq. is not like Br2 + H+ -> Br- + H2 ...?
@etishreesahu10753 жыл бұрын
Umm no, you should always write redox reactions in the format of reduction to oxidation/oxidation to a reduction... What you mean is Br2 to Br- that's a reduction and H+ to H2 that's also reduction which is not correct and this is decided by electrochemical series who will get reduced first and who will get oxidized... That's why mam wrote H2 to H+ WHICH IS OXIDATION...

To be honest, I completely relied on your Channel for my exam preparations and I was no longer afraid of my exams but sometime later, I couldn't find some lessons, some chapters...I got nervous and from many people's suggestions, I tried other platforms...and I actually thought for a few days that they may help but I come back here again because truly ma'am, there is a difference in this aura that you give, we can see your dedication, we can see that you are truly trying to help us get a better understanding of the concept and not just for scoring marks in exams. while many other platforms made me simply nervous and scared, your videos are really comforting and instill all the concepts into us in a perfectly crystal clear manner.
