Q. The major product formed in the reaction of 2-methoxyphenol with CHCl3/NaOH ..?I don't know why but in the given answer -CHO has been attached to para....but while I studied the mechanism of RT I realized that -OH also participates ..Can you please explain the (in ur words) jazz :)

The major product in RTR can either be para or ortho (para is slightly more favoured). In the case that you have mentioned, the CHO group is attached at para position and not at ortho for steric reasons.

Sir at 33:43 , I don't understand why you said that the first reaction under 'at anode' (i.e. oxidation of water) is more favoured. Doesn't a more negative E0 value indicate easier oxidation? And hence Cl- is more likely to get oxidised? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes it happens only but if you have studied chemical kinetics in detail then you will come to know that at anode oxidation of water will be very slow process so we generally provide extra voltage so that at anode oxidation of chlorine occurs. I hope you get it just tell me🤗🤗
