I have started to take the suppressors out of all my Juniors now. Started with the 1334As I serviced the other week. Luckily my 119s don't have them especially our one at the caravan that I would not want to go with a bang !

That was just the suppressor going Dor. They don't go with a bang like the Hoover ones do. It just makes a bit of smoke and smell and once it's done that then it's usually fine afterwards. Which this one is :) Thankyou so much for gifting the cleaner to me, I think it's fantastic!

The one thing I've learned about the old Electrolux cylinders - from Richie - is not to use HEPA bags or any different sort of filters on them, because they're calibrated pretty exactly for what they were designed to use. Paper bags, Electrolux filters, and don't try upgrading those bits, because it ends in smoke and burned out cleaners.

I’m afraid I have to disagree, it turned out it was the suppressor that went on it and nothing else. Phew! Using my hepa and original bag hack will save the machines far better in the long run, it won’t stop dirt getting into the motor cause as you know, that’s inevitable with a dirty fan machine, but in the dust bags, it will absolutely work as I’ve been doing it on machines I’ve now had for a few years and use frequently and the cloth bags inside have absolutely zero escaped dust. I think even for the purists having the original paper bags on the outside keeps that original look. 😘

@@HooverLux Well all you lot who rebuild and fix the things and going to have differing opinions at times, or maybe I misunderstood him, I don't know.. Have to say, with my anxiety as extreme as it is, if that had happened to me I'd never trust the machine again and it would be out the door. I've gotten rid of several Juniors that broke (and were fixed) because I don't dare touch them again after they've gone once. I'm actually, literally, too scared to use them again.

Dale Who it’s good to have different opinions, I just never say YOU’RE WRONG! Like so many do 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I’m absolutely no expert, but I’ve done enough of those gorgeous juniors to have an amateur opinion 🤣. As you’ve seen I have the absolute confidence now to do any Junior post war 🤣. Once they’ve gone bang, they can’t again with no suppressor, it’s like having them neutered 😂😂😂

That one is very unusual with the flat bag cover. Most of them were more bulbous.

@@HooverLux they're a nice looking machine. They must have been the replacement for the 345 series as they both have the blower feature and some even had the same 770w motor.

My parents bought a new Electrolux 330 back in the 70s and after years of good service, it was put into retirement in the early 80s and replaced by a Hoover Junior. From then on it was just used occasionally either indoors or to clean the interior of the cars. Up until its retirement, it had regular post motor and premotor filter changes and as you know from your 345 the premotor filter is located behind the bag housing. So because it was only used occasionally the premotor filter was washed and all seemed well until one day when I was using it and exactly like your 347 it started to belch out smoke. Anyway, I was given the task of taking it to a local domestic appliance repair shop. The engineer at the shop checked it over switched it on and it was fine. He then checked the premotor and asked had it been washed and when I told him, yes it had he said washing the filter restricts airflow and that was [ropbably the reason for the problem. With a new filter fitted it worked perfectly and it was eventually given away to somebody. Sorry that this comment is so long-winded but the problem you experienced with 347 is basically identical as mine with the 330. Maybe it's something unique to the older Electrolux vacuum cleaners but hopefully, it explains the problem with your 347. The only other possibility is that if your 347 is fitted with a suppressor maybe that burnt out and caused the smoke rather than just blowing as they often do. Once again sorry about the length of this comment but I hope it helps you with the 347 issues.

I love your long comments, so keep em coming. I ,overhearing the stories and the history with all the experiences people have had. I’m the one to say thank you for sharing, I love it 🤗😘. I’ve been told after as it’s now George from AEG123 is the keeper of this lovely little machine. He loves I far more than I do and has always wanted one and been looking for one for a long time. I have it to him on the last BH weekend at a meet I went to. You will see all the videos coming up over the next 2 weeks. So he and others said that it was the suppressor as the don’t always pop, but smoke as now it’s absolutely fine. He’s going to remove it anyway just in case, soo hope fully you will see it again on his channel soon.

Hi Dorian, We just got back from our cruise and I'm watching your videos. If you have a infrared temp meter you can see what filter works the best by the coolest running temperature. Great video mate.
