Luca Pretolesi is that one teacher who just keep on teaching us new stuffs and eye opening no matter how many practice and experience we have. Such a great artist/engineer/scientist/teacher/mentor/idol/person. Especially for upcoming EDM producer/engineer, I honestly think he is the one teacher that you will never regret spending your time and/or money for his course/content.

The content is actually much better from the mixcon events this year. It was always a challenge to abstract out the room and audience sound, this is much better from an internet audience perspective. The guest is speaking directly to the internet audience which is multiple times bigger than the live audience. Something to think about!

Thanks for the video! I'm almost sure that all that clipping and displeased distortion mentioned here in the comments is because of the Sonarworks on the stereo bus.
@boomish694 жыл бұрын
Some good stuff but video sounds distorted to me..I don't get clipping a convertor either that's just digital clipping.
@SonicScoop4 жыл бұрын
With clipping a converter a lot of the clipping is actually at the analog stage of the converter. And, a lot of great sounding mixes have tracks that sound weird in isolation. It's not about whether they sound great and clean on their own. It's about how they all combine in the final mix. That said, in a demonstration video things could happen here and there where they might not sound exactly like they did in the final mix, such as if Luca is monitoring output of the desk rather than output of the D/A and could be hitting converters even harder at moments than he did in the final mix. Hard to say for sure! Thanks for the feedback in any case.

This is so great. Mix tips from Luca is the best. Just one thing, is it my Sennheiser earbuds, or is this video audio distorting??
@SonicScoop4 жыл бұрын
There is definitely intentional distortion and saturation on certain elements that may become more apparent when they are solo'd than when they are played in the full mix. Let us know where you think you hear it and we can double check! But listening to the intro it sounds pretty close to his final version which can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sF68f5uAnNOihcU There may be some subtle differences going through it all quickly for a demonstration video of course.
@arseniy4 жыл бұрын

amazing mix but keep in mind folks having summing boards and using high end converters makes mixing 10X faster plugins sounds better when it hybrid and summing with hardware than fully in the box not saying you cant have records ITB but OTB is always superior

Can anyone explain how exactly he is using the VCA bus? Is it somehow summing all of his bus channels into an additional digital bus to then send out to his hardware compressor? Or is it controlling all the different levels of the individual buses? I do not use studio one so I may be missing something blatantly obvious.

Is it just me or the sound kind clipped or something?
@SonicScoop4 жыл бұрын
There's no clipping here in the final video edit. But is possible that there could have been moments during the demonstration when things were pushed a little extra hard, causing more clipping of converters than intended, or just that some of the solo'd elements have more saturation on them than one might expect. Are there any moments where you particularly notice it?

This was by far the worst mixing video I have seen by one of the best in the game. He should have showed how to do things in the box like some of other videos he has been in.
@RaduJon4 жыл бұрын
He applies the same techniques / mind set on the hardware as he does on the software. It’s just a preference thing. Some things are easier to reach to when you have your analog tools at your disposal and within arms reach. Like Luca said, you use two hands instead of one mouse pointer.. your decisions are faster and more organic.. like a DJ that performs his set solely from his laptop versus using his DDJ or CDJ controller. You should try it 😊👍
@Iamfeelzmusic4 жыл бұрын
@@RaduJon You seem like a smart guy but you sound really dumb trying to comment on my comment. I use analog and I am a dj. The view and instruction was terrible to see and understand was my point. I went to college for music and a lot of it was hard to process. It would have been a lot easier if he showed it in the box or the view was better. Again my "opinion' is this was the worst mixing video I have ever seen by one of the best in the game. If you don't like my "opinion" keep that to yourself and move on.
