After milling the centre ring perhaps hack the bulk of the wastage off with a saw to reduce the workload on the mill and the mess! The remaining can be milled perhaps in x and y only if that's easier.

I actually thought about sawing away some of the access material on my little table saw. I did that before on another POM part in another project. In hindsight I should have done it.

The dents can be filled with a mix of superglue and dust of the POM shavings, or with only POM shavings and a hot knife or soldering iron. After the filling, you can use a file to remove the excess material.

Yeah, Robert, use some molten POM to fill that gap.

That's a great idea! I do have a hot air soldering station for SMD soldering. And you can get POM rods for welding (though I probably would just take a knife to one of my leftovers and shave off some long shavings). Anyway, I still hope those dents are just cosmetic.
