Sorry for the long comment Soldiering irons aren't capable of temperatures needed to vaporize lead or the other materials in solder that could be problematic. Obviously it's always best to exhaust the fumes if possible... putting a fan on low next to you helps a lot. It blows/dissipates the fumes before they can reach your face. The rosin and other compounds in the core of solder can cause headaches for some people. And the ingredients vary widely from Brand to brand. But as long as you don't have a huge open solder bath/pot..... The air is probably better quality than what you breathe outside in most major cities. Sooooooo to wrap up this rambling comment.... you don't really have to worry about cancer from lead and other heavy metals in solder because of their high vaporization temperature.
