The voltage multiplier is used to increase the voltage level at the rectifier terminals relative to the level on the secondary winding of the transformer or the 220 V network. The voltage multiplier circuit consists of capacitors which, in a certain sequence, are charged from the secondary winding through diodes. By increasing the number of capacitors and, respectively, diodes, a multiple multiplication of the voltage can be achieved. In practice, the most common is a voltage doubler. The circuit of the voltage doubler in the construction is not difficult and is sufficient for a novice electronics engineer. It has two diodes and two capacitors, which are connected in series and give the load twice the voltage. The voltage multiplier is mainly used when feeding a small load. However, among all the diversity there is a voltage doubler circuit, in which it is possible to use electrolytic capacitors. They differ considerably in their capacitance compared to nonpolar film capacitors. Therefore, such a multiplier circuit allows for much higher loads.
