Restoring a 1956 Braun TS2 Radio: Power Test, Rectifier Upgrade, and Design Review - pt1

This 1956 Braun TS2 tube radio was light-years ahead of its competition in both design and aesthetics. While most radios of the era were bulky, trimmed in gold, and housed in dark wood, the Braun TS2 introduced sleek, minimalist lines that signaled a shift in modern design. Even back then, Braun was paving the way toward the iconic, clean look that would define its future, later perfected by the legendary Dieter Rams. His “less but better” philosophy helped create designs that remain timeless, even over 60 years later.
In this video, I kick off the restoration process by focusing on the power supply, where I’ll be trying out my custom Silicon Diodes with MOSFET voltage dropper circuit to replace the original selenium rectifier. Imagine that totally uncleaned and fired-up with all the tubes in. Marlboro Country aroma heaven!! 😂 Lovely radio and a ground-breaking design for the year. I think this one will have a fantastic sound when it is up and running. Those Braun speakers from that era are very good.

Hi Manuel Paint thinner sounds like a rather harsh agent for your health. I hope that you only use it outdoors I won't have one of my favorite youtubers getting sick making videos. I mainly work in tube and solidstate amplifiers and my perfered cleaning agent of choise is odorless kerosene. It is of course higly flamable and must be used outdoors, but it is very effective against tobacco residue, rather cheap and not as toxic as paint thinner. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
