Manuel Your attention to detail particularly evident in cleaning process and teaching has certainly helped the hobbyist. Between you and Dave Tipton I think there are a lot more radios that will make it another century. I appreciate the time you take to film your projects.

The cleaning is actually quite fun on radios like this due to their size. I’m enjoying this one a lot 😊

Welcome to the world of 3D printing Manuel. It can be very handy as you found, mine seems to be used to print nicknacks for my grandchildren. Last week I printed a pistachio opener for my grandson 🙄 A very useful addition to the workshop nevertheless. The Orbiter looks fantastic and I love Sony products. The shoe polish works a treat too 👍😀

Yes, it’s kind of strange that all of a sudden I find things that I absolutely need and can print. Don’t know what I did before this 😊

Enjoyed this one immensely Manuel! I've been putting off buying a 3d printer for exactly the same reasons you did, that is, a chronic lack of space and the high learning curves required to get it up and running. Turns out I was really just trying to talk myself out of spending so much time and money on a toy that I might use only once or twice, but you and Dave Tipton have convinced me that they're much more useful than that. Thanks for the links to the videos that helped you get yours up and running. Will definitely check them out.

👍 definitely worth it for me, and the learning curve is actually not as bad as I expected

That grill and knob/plate look outstanding! 👍 Overall, it's a beauty! WOW! Never would have guessed about making the AC Plug! Well done! --- Would suggest you keep some kind of cover over the printer. Also keep a library of the parts you print on a SD Card or USB Stick.

Yes, I was quite surprised myself 😊 the printer came with an SD card 👍

On my Grundig Satellit 1400 I used a little light "sewing machine" oil on a rag, but does the same thing as WD40. Helps it stay shiny and also move freely. I got a Creality Ender 5 Pro for 3D printing, and honestly couldn't be happier. Creality support has been amazing and the printer is really quite good, and can do quite fine prints considering the price point. Bang for buck is quite impressive with Creality equipment.
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
I have also used wd40 in the past which brings the black shine back quite effectively, but in some cases the colour has faded so the polish sorts that out. I’ve done some more printing and am absolutely happy with this acquisition.

It's looking absolutely great. I think I will be shamelessly stealing your shoepolish trick. I've been cleaning up a couple of Satellit 2100's and I was debating how to get the black leatherette on it looking better. I think that shoepolish will do the trick. But man, your videos are going make me bankrupt. You either introduce a radio that I get an urge to want or a piece of equipment I would like. This one has both!!!! 😁😂

Great work on the cabinet. Enjoyed seeing the 3D printing design. I'm not sure I want to go that far. For me repairing electronic faults or electromechanical faults is what keeps me interested in the hobby. That and designing or creating test equipment. My mind is too lazy to learn yet another skill set. But I do see how interesting and absorbing 3D printing can become. I'm saying this now, I wonder how much of this is me trying to talk myself out of it LOL
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
For quite some time, I too talked my way out of it. Then I realised just how useful it could be, and all that negative talk just disappeared. I finally decided I couldn’t live without one 😊

Good video = Thanks. Suggestions... Electrical contacts inside mains cable connector = Wound copper would be better than solder. Brass springs. "Butt" crimp connectors; one side gets crimped onto the wire and the other end slips over the male post. Whatever method you choose, you might be able to seat it into the connector by making the contact's hole slightly too small and pushing the contact into the hole with a hot soldering iron, to melt it into place. Search YT videos on how to seat metal screw bushing inserts. Automotive leather seat/dash cleaner for the leatherette. To store the 3D printer = There are DIY plans in woodworking magazines to build a cabinet with a rotating top. One side of the top might have a grinder; the other side might have a sander. You just flip up whichever one you need to use and the other one is automatically stored. In other words, two units in one space. Which CAD program do you now prefer; SketchUp, or Fusion360?
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
I did not use wound solder. It is silver coated 0.8mm solid wire. Thanks for the useful suggestions. 👍 I still work faster with sketchup, but fusion is growing on me.

3-D printing suggestion, subtly convince your wife 3-D printing for her would be a great hobby, the benefits for you a second channel, and she allocate more or the family 3-D printer. Teasing aside congratulations for taking on yet another new tool.

She’s already coming up with ideas about what she needs me to print for her! 😊 I told her I’d teach her to use it and she can have it for one day per month. Seems fair. She’s a computer tech so can’t complain about learning how to use it. Just mustn’t let her make a habit of it, or I’ll need another one. Actually, not a bad idea …

Hi Manuel. When I was working at a University I had access to the 3D printers and laser cuters. They ranged from units worth 10 times the Creality to huge industrial metal printers. Even those were slow! We used Audodesk software that they have since discontinued and special cameras that would scan objects and convert the image to a multipoint frame. Sadly the pandemic killed that access for me as they cancelled our contracts. The printer you've bought looks to be a good alternative, together with a resin printer. Would you reccommend a seller, as I obviously don't want to pay retail! I have to start afresh with the software too, so Fusion 360 seems to be the go. Thanks for the kickup the bum I needed!
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
I believe these printers are all in the €200 range, and vary little between sellers. I’m not sure who would be selling it in your neck of the woods, but in my case I bought it from the Creality store Europe.

Fantastic job Manuel! I never would have thought of the shoe polish thing. I have never seen any in a tube like that. What is the brand name? One thing I noticed, on the back, there is a rectangle that looks like aged paper near the top. What is that? It is the only thing that detracts from the amazing and beautiful job of sprucing it up like new.
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
The brand of this one is “splendor” but I’m sure you’ll have your own brands where you live. Just search at your local supermarket. It’s the proper polish and not merely the glossy liquid stuff. The paper had some sort of label, but is completely faded, unfortunately.

One thing to be aware of is that that the filament (especially the PLA that is made from Corn Starch) absorbs water and degrades over time. So keep unused filament in a plastic bag with Silica Gel, or buy a specially designed sealed heater storage unit.

Technical question, I have a Sony CRF-5100, the FM band is shifted forward, for example 99.9 appears at approximately 101. And sometimes some FM appears on the air band between 108 and 109. Do you know if it is something normal on these radios? Is it easy to adjust? Another issue is that sometimes on FM the light turns on and other times it doesn't.
@electronicsoldandnew7 ай бұрын
You probably need to do an RF alignment of the FM. The manual should have instructions in that regard.
@Juan-kz3rp7 ай бұрын
function!!! thank you!!! What I couldn't do is get the light to turn on when it tunes.
@Juan-kz3rp7 ай бұрын
It turned out pretty good. The red light on the dial sometimes comes on, sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if the signal level is reception or do I have to touch something? What I do know is that the stations are practically where they should be.

I asked him to use his discount and by me that transoceanic model 700, he did so and that one was made in Chicago. Wikipedia confirms your thought that latter manufacturing runs were made in Taiwan.

Blimey! Technology advances so fast! 3D printers way beyond my understanding. I'm struggling with the controller for the central heating boiler we have just had installed. The downfalls of old age I suppose. I still remember trying to explain to my dear old father how to use a video recorder. Numerous attempts, written instructions all fell on deaf ears! Best wishes Lynton G4XCQ
